Having last week announced a special one-off UK concert performing with Adam Lambert at the Sonisphere Festival, Knebworth, on July 7, legendary rock band Queen has announced it will play an additional earlier date with the singer when Queen and Lambert appear at Moscow’s Olympic Arena on June 30th.

These two shows are the only concerts presently planned for Queen and Lambert in 2012.

Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor met Lambert during the finals of American Idol Season 8 in May 2009 where Lambert joined the band to perform “We Are the Champions”.

Since then the band and Lambert have repeatedly hinted at a future collaboration, most recently with Queen’s Roger Taylor telling Billboard Magazine “"He (Adam) has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again…it could be very exciting."

Lambert, who in the end placed second in AI, has since established a fast-rising career as an emerging rock artist . His solo album “For Your Entertainment” released just after the end of the Idol season debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 in December 2009 and he went on to receive the Young Hollywood Award “Artist of the Year”.

Recently, at the invitation of Brian May and Roger Taylor, Lambert made a second guest appearance with Queen, joining the band for the closing of the MTV Europe Awards where May and Taylor were present to collect the Global Icon Award for Queen.

Their eight minute MTVE set ignited an immediate reaction across the internet with social network sites buzzing with excitement and campaigning for more from Queen and Lambert.

The Moscow Olympic Arena show on June 30, coming a full week ahead of their UK show, will provide the very first opportunity to see what comes out of May, Taylor and Lambert finally getting to fully explore their very evident artistic appreciation of one another.

Talking of his forthcoming summer concert appearances with Queen, Lambert says: "The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some great songs. It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of. There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honour and one I'm in no way going to shirk ... Being asked to appear with Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen".

Queen became popular in the mid-'70s and remain one of the most successful bands in the history of rock music. They released 15 studio and 5 live albums as well as numerous compilations. Among them 18 albums ranked #1 in music charts worldwide and the estimated total number or record sales around the world exceeds 300 million.

Since the death of singer Freddie Mercury in 1991 Brian May and Roger Taylor have continued to honour the legacy of Queen by performing alone or with guest vocalists, allowing fans the possibility to hear live such rock classics as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You”, “We Are the Champions”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, “Radio Ga Ga” and others.

Queen’s music also continues to kept alive and reach new audiences through the worldwide success of the band’s hit musical “We Will Rock You” which has been performed across the world and in May will celebrate an unbroken ten-year run on the same stage in London at the Dominion Theatre.

Why not Paul Rodgers? Why has he fallen out of favour? Lambert is a cunt.

I personally think Lambert may be able to pull off some older Queen songs that haven't been played live in decades....

This PROBABLY won't happen because they''ll probably resort to some greatest hits set for the bandwagoners.

imo, the press release is clutching at straws.

"'Their eight minute MTVE set ignited an immediate reaction across the internet with social network sites buzzing with excitement and campaigning for more from Queen and Lambert."

first of all - the negativity online has by far outweighed the positive. (though that would have been weird to put in the press release :)

second; this whole project seems SO MUCH more fabricated than when they hooked up with Paul Rodgers.
Where is the excitement? where are Brian's rants about how amazing the new singer is? and where are the comments about "chemistry" and "sparks" etc that were flying all over the place after the UK hall of fame thing in 2004?

I, very seriously, and as objectively I can be in this case, don't see this is a natural pairing. It seems to me that someone put this on paper, along with a pile of cash, and persuaded Brian to get on with it

Jazzy, you hate Paul Rodgers but he has talent and is a rock icon, one of the best in the business. He never tried to be freddie, why should he his work with Free and Bad Company and solo work built him his own reputation. Lambert is a lame Freddie Mercury wannabe ?(he didnt even know Brian's name, so he must be a real Queen fan). Lambert is the very clebrity that Roger wrote about. Lambert is a cunt like you Jazzy...

It is very clear in Roger's C-lebrity song that he is referring to people who don't have any talent that want to be famous on TV anyway. People who "can't sing or dance at all." We do have some good examples of this on the reality shows such as Survivor or MTV type shows and also The Bachelor. Snookie is a C-lebrity. Adam is an experienced performer and Roger admires his musical ability. Therefore, he is not the type of person that Roger was writing about.

To see ADAM LAMBERT become a hot topic on yahoo (albeit for an hour) at #6... was impressive... since nothing attributed to QUEEN has been popular in a while. (USA)

....or infamous. (depends whose opinion you ask)

The negativity was primarily from Queen fans. However the media ate it up for the most part and for the record, Brian has said numerous times how much he likes Adam, on his own soapbox when Lambert was recording his debut album Brian visited the studio and said Adam's voice was the only male voice to give him shivers since Freddie.

It never ceases to amaze me how many self-proclaimed experts there are.

The gig hasn't even happened yet and people are already posting full reviews.

Brian is rich. He doesn't need the money. Judging by his many actions over the past decade or so, he just wants Queen songs to be heard by the next generations. When he did that awards show with Lady Gaga, can you imagine how many kids asked their parents who the gray-haired guitarist was? Brian knows exactly what he's doing.

Adam Lambert is a great singer, but he's a big draw in the US, not in Europe or Asia. But judging by the response to Queen + Paul Rodgers in 2005 in Europe, Brian and Roger could've gone out there with a cardboard cut-out of Freddie and still sold out every arena.

I just hope they choose a good cut out for the next tour.

Didn't like that "great pretender" one so much. The pink blazer thing... Wouldn't work in a live setting.

Freddie is dead. Get over it. Stop being so god damned serious and closed minded. The dude loved life and lived it to the fullest. He'll never be replaced...but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate him on stage.

Adam Lambert is talented, campy, over the top and clearly....clearly...clearly worships at the altar of Freddie. I'm sure he's genuinely jacked to do the show and can bring a set of skills to the performance that Paul never could have done.

And though I don't know them personally, I can envision a scenario where both Brian & Roger fully welcome what Adam brings to the table.

I'm not ashamed to say that I have willingly participated in the bashing of Adam singing with 'Queen' on Facebook. It's a poor match. I've heard Adam sing Queen songs & I liken it to watching someone shit on a Picasso. Thanks for tarnishing my once favorite band. I've lost all respect for Brian and Roger and I'm quite positive I'm not the only fan to feel this way.

Haha, you people kill me. Folks have a right to be at least concerned. He's had two shots so far at doing a good show with Brian, and on both counts he fucking sucked.

I'm an optimist and I'm hoping the 3rd attempt goes better, and even if it doesn't - I'll just be happy if we get to hear from Brian and Roger. Those guys should be playing, not wasting their time on dead end endeavours like that Extravaganza thing.

Of course, it might be a little hard to hear Brian singing over Adam "Hey What's The Guitarist's Name" Lambert, who'll surely be in one of his Me Me Me moments... and I fully expect Dappy to be in the front row somewhere shouting over all of Brian's solos ... but again, I'm really optimistic that there's at least one good song or surprise in there.

I'd like another moment like at the Kharkov show where he pulled Bijou out. That was the first time in years that Queen music really got me in any way.
