Hello again. I've created a stripped down edit of One Vision. This version starts out rocking - the atmospheric intro of the original has been dropped and isn't missed. It has part of the 12" version incorporated as well and ends with a clean "fried chicken". So it's not a whole new song, just a slightly different version that I find enjoyable. For me it has replaced the original in my playlist, your mileage may vary. I hope you enjoy it. Have a great day

There's been so many versions of this now - can't someone do something different?

Listen to the part at 1:37-1:45. Can you not hear that they keyboard is out of sync with the vocal? OK, so that's not entirely your fault, as it's on the stems like that, but that's where the skill of editing and mixing comes in - to repair cock ups like that!

The middle section from the 12" goes on too long, but not badly edited, however, the edit at 4:17 is terrible!

The beginning and the end are just omitting parts of the stems - all been done before.

Sorry to be negative, but there's nothing really here that's exciting, interesting, or original.

@Lord Fickle: I did notice the keyboard stems badly out of sync, I'm not a fan of the keyboard middle part anyway and did fiddle with that section. I don't have the song to listen at the moment but if I recall correctly I increased volume of keyboards at the beginning but faded out when it got annoying. As to the other thing, If you are referring to the cut at 4:17 from the 12" middle section back into the main song, indeed does not sound great. However load up the 12" version and compare it, the transition there is abrupt as well. It's like it misses a beat or something. I guess it is either a mistake from the 12" editor or on purpose as a shock value type of thing. As you all say, there are plenty of other versions of this great song out there as well for your enjoyment.

i'm hoping that the "train of thought" might be arriving soon at smeagolheart-central
remixes have to bring something new, interesting and "usually" inaccessible - ie do something different

As LF said, if there are some mistakes in the original stems, they should be fixed. Sometimes those things are not audible in the original mix but when we decide to uncover them while remixing then we should fix or at least try to minimize them.

The original 12" mixes are full of terrible edits - in fact, I don't know how half of them managed to get out of the studio. There couldn't have been much quality control involved - unless they just didn't care, and threw them out for release anyway.

When doing a 'mix' of whatever type you care to mention, especially with the availability of the stems, these 'errors' should be corrected by the mixer, as a matter of course. You wouldn't put a new coat of paint on a wall, without filling in the holes in the plaster first, would you? :)

The 12" 'Headbangers Mix' of Hammer To Fall was full of bad edits - in fact, it sounded like three different tracks stitched together. I attempted to remedy that with a mix I did of it, which I will upload in a minute. Hopefully you'll be able to hear that the once jarring edits, the main one being towards the end, where it goes from the 'extra' bit, back into the original version, have been smoothed over, and the whole thing has been re-equalised, so that it sounds consistent throughout. This is what I mean about taking time and care over a mix, and not just throwing it together.

I hope you take this, not personally, but as constructive criticism, as that's what it's intended to be. :)

@Lord Fickle: Constructive criticism is fine with me, I don't take it personally. If you take what you have to say and say it about the product with specifics, it's fine. If you had said "that sucks!", which you didn't that's pretty worthless. I am pretty sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know because you seem a reasonable person who says something after thinking first.
