Adam Lambert and British rock group Queen will perform together at four concert dates this summer, a collaboration Roger Taylor has described as “fireworks.”
Queen currently includes guitarist Brian May and drummer Taylor. Taylor and May formed the band Smile, which Freddie Mercury altered to Queen when he joined. Mercury died in 1991 of complications due to AIDS.
While a July 7 performance at Sonisphere 2010 has been canceled, Lambert and Queen will perform together at a June 30 show in Moscow's Olympic Arena, and a show with Elton John is also under consideration. They'll also perform two shows in July at the Hammersmith Apollo to provide “some alternative … for some of the the people who had bought tickets” to the now-canceled Sonisphere date, Taylor told Billboard.
Speaking to Yahoo!'s Reality Rocks music blog, Taylor described the collaboration with a single word: “Fireworks!”
May added: “Something different. [Lambert] has an extraordinary voice, there's no way you can get around that – whether you love him or hate him. He's extraordinary. So we'll be exploring new ways to do things. We don't like to just reproduce what we did before; we like to move on and try new ways of doing stuff. So it will be exciting!”.

I'm assuming that 'fireworks' is a new term for scraping the barrel?

It's not a lie, is it?

They're moving on and finding new ways of doing WWRY and WATC year after year... What could be more exciting?

As ever, I hope there's some truth to what he's saying - but I really doubt it.

I can't remember the last time Roger or Brian had anything accurate to say about upcoming works. Brian described TCR as 'epic' on his Soapbox - now I don't hate the album, but EPIC IT AIN'T. Roger has used all kinds of superlatives to describe what the Queen Extravaganza will be like. As good as I think Marc Martel is, I don't think the band is doing anything that a TV show band couldn't do. I genuinely believe that's not the fault of the constituent members of said band, though - you really can have all of the 'right' people in a thing, and still have it not make magic. It happens - you can't force these things.

So anyway. I'm dubious. I remain hopeful, though. I was well bloody sick of the Paul Rodgers thing when Kharkov came about, and then Brian busts out Bijou. It's nice surprises like that one that I'm looking forward to.

Roger should choose his similes/analogies more carefully, because most people will be aware of the Safety Warning written on ALL Fireworks:

"Never return to a lit firework"

...a good maxim for Queen and their fans, on the current "Firework In Progress" ?

Well it certainly caused QZ fireworks. But what really matters is the musical fireworks on stage and with the audience.

A reviewer once compared Fred to Dionysis (hope I spelled that right :) ) - the Greek god of food and wine, " foreign" and inticing.. Perhaps this is Bri and RT's way of trying to recreate that part of it from long ago. Adam has a proclivity toward a similar persona. He will appear and seem foreign to so many, even exotic. As I see it, he must morph into that Dionysian role - his youth and dark looks are an asset to this task. He must sing it well and unleash "heat" and character at the same time. It will be interesting to see how he executes that in a full show.

Let's be honest .... unlike PR, Adam has the physique and natural naughty bits shaking ability to project a bit of the fireworks that've been lacking since Freddie. Try to imagine Get Down Make Love presented by PR and then imagine what Adam's take could be ... and the possibilities get a lot more interesting (at least to me). One of those 2 performances I might actually rewind and watch again - and that's when you know you have something. Good luck to him. Good luck to their gamble with it. Hope they have a good time.

You know what, I've a funny feeling some QZ'ers may end up eating their words over the Adam Lambert collaboration (Brenski, looking at you fella). How some can be so negative on something that hasn't yet happened is a little weird. Give it, give him, give them a chance. If it is crap, say so after the event.

I remember a documentary a few years ago on C4 in the UK, when Bob Geldof said these songs need to be performed live. They should find a young kid with the range of Freddie and get out on the road. Seems to me, thats what they are hoping to do.

Give it a chance, have an open mind, it isn't Freddie of course, but it just might be a welcome suprise.

you don't get it. i have NOTHING against them doing the queen thing til they all die...it's their right and their band...but for fuck's sake...and all that's precious in sweet life...picka fuckign singer that works....i hate lambert for almost ALL of the opposite reasons to why i dind't like paul rodgers.....
there are loads of singers out there that could be good, just NOT this one

ps - if they had any real bottle - they'd do a tour of Brian/Roger songs - and fuckign well sing them themselves!!!!

"so negative on something that hasn't yet happened"

I have a funny feeling that you've forgotten that Adam Lambert has already sung with Brian and Roger.

Now, if they somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat and it doesn't completely suck like last time, then it will be a pleasant and welcome surprise. But don't blame people for being skeptical. He's given us plenty to worry about in the past.

Like I said, I'm holding onto the hope that they pick a few interesting songs and that Brian and Roger get to sing a bit. That was always the highlight of the Paul Rodgers tours.

To be honest I'm pretty excited for this. While there's a good chance it'll be terrible, at least it'll be something NEW which involves Brian and Roger playing Queen songs.

I'll never get past the fact that he's a karaoke leftover from a show which bri and rog have been very vocal about NOT liking (I suppose that's a mellow term)

it's pissing all over a great legacy. and I'll never understand the fans who are happy for brian and roger to be out there playing, NO matter what. I wonder where they can go from this in a downward direction?

I fully excpect to see them at a shopping mall, 10 yrs from now, where they have auditions to find people who can be either
a: in a local branch of WWRY
b: in a local branch of QE
c: and who knows...the lastest Queen+ singer

maybe Mr. Taylor is influenced by Katty Perry?
