Brian May has announced new plans to continue to pay tribute to late friend Freddie Mercury by getting him to "appear" for the 10th anniversary of the Queen inspired 'We Will Rock You' musical. With plenty of attention on bringing back the dead in hologram form, in the wake of Tupac Shakur's surprise appearance at Coachella, the odds were always short on May having a go at getting his old mucka back.

True to form he's been working on it, though May says it won't be the same technology that DR. Dre and Snoop Dogg used, telling the Bbc that it will be "an optical illusion of sorts. People will come out saying, 'did we actually see Freddie?' he added.

May is aware though that he's been beaten to the punch somewhat, and commented "It's a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we've been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while. [That technique] is something we've looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it's not really quite practical." However they sort it, one of those who'll be in attendance to see will be actor Robert De Niro - also one of the producers on the play - with May saying "There is a certain person who's coming that's intimately associated with getting the production on in the first place - our friend Bob from Los Angeles. We call him Bob so we don't get too overcome with his stardom." Wonder what John Deacon's up to?

Hi, Richard!

Isn't this kind of late since Roger already said it's a terrible idea? I like the picture of Freddie's parents, though.

No, when Roger said that wouldnt want to perform with a hologram of his dead friend, he was most likely refering to a proper Queen show and not a west-end musical.

They are always saying things that they then contradict.

Yes, Roger's exact words are that he wouldn't appear with "a hologram" but if others wanted to them that would be fine.

They'll now argue that it's not strictly a "hologram" so he's not going against his word - that seems to be the kop out sort of thing they often do. Why not just say nothing at all??

And who would want to create a Freddie mock up other than them, for something like the musical or the QE.

All very silly.

Lol Brian once again doing something crazy.

Still at least with this hologram Freddie we could give Lambert a ring and ditch him and allow "Freddie" to sing at Knebworth.

*shrug* I'd prefer a hologram to those scruffy looking twits that usually work on the musical. Don't even care at this point.

I invented this "hologram" system when i was 6, Using a toy Ghostbusters gun which projected ghosts onto walls to project a ghost on to Perspex in our hallway for a Halloween party.

i wish someone told me i could have patented it.

Ps: expect someone's retort.

This invite shouldn't be very hard to counterfeit.... as long as they don't put some kind of hologram on it.

If John ever needed any motivation to outlive Brian, this is it. Your not safely 'off stage' even when dead.
