I got "The Complete Illustrated Lyrics" book!!! It is mindblowing!!! I love it! I really have no idea as to why North America have had it released so much earlier than the rest of the world though. It also infuriates me that "The Cosmos Rocks" songs are not included at all. That pisses me off to no end. That's one of their best studio l.p.s. They have no one to blame but themselves for their misfortunes with Queen continuing.

Um...there are pictures and lyrics! Lol. No really it is great. Uuummm. The book is paper back but it seems to be of high quality to where the cover and pages are really good. The fowards by Brian May and Roger Taylor (albeit breif) are excellent. I find it interesting that Roger Taylor is getting his name and forward published ahead of Brian's as I have considered Queen to be Brian's group but I guess I don't really know the facts with all of that. I of course could simply be reading into all of that too much. Although Roger is getting the credit for leading the Queen Extravaganza (no mentioning of this in the book; shucks; I don't think) it does seem as if Brian is stepping away from Queen in some ways more so and letting Roger take the reigns. Again I don't know what I am talking about but these seem to be some of my perceptions at this time.

The pictures are great and the artwork as well. I honestly don't know if any or many other recording artists have done this type of thing per say. The overview write up of Queen (including the hint that they never ended and have continued in some manner) is within the two cover sleaves (you know right on the inside of the sleeves where normally book overviews are done) and the whole thing is of the lyrics and tons of images. There are not any other essays. The credits as with most published books are of course included.

Um...thank God they tell what l.p.s the songs are from and include pictures of the l.p.s and singles as well in little thumbnails...but don't take that wrong it is done very well. I do wish they would make it distinctly clear that the l.p.s are studio l.p.s and nothing live in concert.
The songs include who wrote them...though I do wish they had the running time on them. There is also a discography of the basic FIRST fifteen studio l.p.s (no compilations (other than the original 1981 "Greatest Hits" being mentioned at the beginning of the career overview), live, or solo releases). That's not so bad I just wish to God "The Cosmos Rocks" songs had been included. They are going to have to do a real re-release of that studio l.p. someday and I don't mean the basic Universal Music one that is being done worldwide outside of the U.S. of A. Something more.

The images are of photos, handwritten lyrics, and studio l.p. artwork. I guess the book pretty much says that but there's certainly stuff I've never seen before. Of course I can't say that I've seen everything but I do have all of much of the Queen catelog and tons of books.
Lord get it!

As far as me including pictures I apologize but I am not good at doing that type of thing with the computer.

Also there are a number of studio tracks that have their song lyrics listed that were not from any of the studio l.p.s. These being basically B-sides (for the most part I think) tracks on singles that could not be found elsewhere unless it was on another single as well. They mention some of these tracks being versions from the BBC but are not clear in any way if they are tracks from "At The Beeb" a.k.a. "At The BBC" or not as that release is not acknowleged at all in this book I do not think since both versions are compilations and compilations were left out as any type of main focus.

I do stand corrected in that there is one compilation mentioned and acknowledge with a thumbnail and as an informant of where "No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" comes from and that is of course "Queen Rocks". So there is at least that one off acknowleged since the first initial break up. Cool yellow pages for the lyrics of that song and photos there as well. It should be stated that while "Queen Rocks" is the first studio l.p. compilation that "No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" was released on and that is true for a Queen only related release the first compilation it was released on was shortly earier of various artists doing a tribute/memoral two c.d. set to the sudden passing of Princess Diana which had happened at that time.

So yes like the book says the images contain unreleased artwork from these original studio l.p.s by the original four members and previously unpublished photos of them as well. It's great.

Press Release: Queen - The Complete Illustrated Lyrics

Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics

Foreword by Roger Taylor and Brian May

As Queen begins its fifth decade, straight from the band’s vault comes this visually dazzling tome of lyrics.

Queen, one of the most innovative, glamorous, and influential bands in rock history, was formed in 1971 when the musical fates brought four creative and cerebral youths together in London. Freddie Mercury was an established fine and graphic artist, Brian May was enveloped in the study of astrophysics, Roger Taylor was enrolled in dental school, and John Deacon was studying electronics. Since then, they have made history with their sophisticated fusion of operatic expression, theatrical performance, and raw rock and roll.

Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics is the first book of its kind. Not only has there never before been a complete Queen lyrics book, Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics also features hundreds of images accompanying the songs, from handwritten lyrics to never-before-seen photographs from the stage to the studio. Also included is a complete discography, pairing each song with the album on which it was originally released.

Beginning with their debut album Queen in 1973, the band took the U.K. by storm, then conquered the United States along with the rest of the world, serving as pioneers of stadium rock and enjoying commercial success and momentum well into the 1980s (highlighted by their show-stopping Live Aid appearance in 1985) through the early 1990s. The whirlwind took a startling pause when Mercury died from AIDS on November 24, 1991, but since then, the living members have forged ahead and remain great music makers until this day.

Queen has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has songs enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and has received BMI’s highest honor, the BMI Icon Award. Queen’s Greatest Hits, released in 1981, is the U.K.’s best-selling album of all time.

Designed by Queen’s longtime creative director Richard Gray, Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics is as true to the band as can be, carrying with it the flamboyance, expression, and depth that Queen embodies. If there is one book for a Queen fan to own, this is the one.

Out Now in North America. Released from June 1st in Europe and the UK.

If you ordered the book last year then it will probably be on the way, depending where you got the book from, in the US or UK. Get in touch with the shop you ordered it from if you are concerned.

If you order the book from Amazon etc, then they usually deliver to all over the world, whether you live in Poland or any other EU country.
