No sorry, there are no current plans to release the 5.1 mixes for the albums just yet. These CDs from japan are only in stereo, but the full album range is available for a limited time only. They sound amazing, but are very expensive to buy, they are about £70 in total. A review of certain albums are there from me if anyone is on the fence.

Well Im in the middle of collecting them, I have 6 so far that span the catalogue, but no one needs to buy the greatest hits 1 or 2 as the audio on the dvds that came out years ago has high quality 96/24 encoded on them, just need to know how to rip the audio and process it to play thru any audio player on the computer, but Im also backing up the japanese discs to my computer, there not cds but DVDs.

As far as I know (and I've tried numerous bits of software), you can't rip the files to a format that will play back on a PC or media player.
After all these years, it seems as though Sony have hit on an uncopyable format.
I think the only way to do it would be the old fashioned way of playing directly into the PC and recording (live) at 96/24 using a decent sound card.

Have you successfully managed to make a playable copy of an SACD though?

Yes...Using Adobe Audition to record using 96/24, I play the SACD through an amplifier that is connected to the computer....Easy as 1,2,3. In fact when you record to the computer you get a slightly more defined sound as whats on the discs is only 88/24, but the player upscales the SACD to 96/24, the difference is almost nil, but when I play back the recordings the computer has to upscale the audio, and it does a better job.

I am tempted to buy a few of these SACDs, mainly I want Hot Space and Flash Gordon, possibly The Works, as those are my favourite Queen albums.

As people have said, they are very expensive, and before I run up my Visa bill can someone confirm they definitely play on SACD players, and that you don't need to play them on DVD/SACD compatible players.

Are there any that really aren't worth bothering with?

People are probably still too baffled by your choice of favorite Queen albums to respond to this :-)

brians wig,

SACDs can indeed be copied. There are several ways, varying in complexity and cost. As "pestgrid" pointed out, one approach is go the digital->analog->digital route. This requires no specialized hardware though it has the rather unfortunate side effect of not producing an exact, binary copy of the SACD content.

Another approach is to use a first-generation PS3. Sony cleverly forgot to implement portions of their own copy protection scheme, thus enabling users to rip the DSD content directly from the SACD using the PS3's built-in SACD capabilities. Read more here:

http://www.ps3sacd.com/

This produces an ISO (exact copy) of the SACD, which can then be converted into various formats--PCM included, e.g. WAV, FLAC, etc. (lossless).

I was referring to digital copies, but yes, I have since found out about the PS3 route :)
