Press Release: Queen Release Greatest Video Hits on DVD in North America

August 28th Sees The Best of Queen's 70s and 80s Promo Videos Get Released in 2- disc Box Set

This 2-disc set packages many of Queen’s classic promotional videos into 1 package for the first time. The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Disc 1 spotlights Queen in the 1970’s, when the music video began to emerge. This collection highlights some of their most beloved tracks, from “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, “We Will Rock You” & “We Are The Champions”. From the freezing backyard shoots of “We Will Rock You” and “Spread Your Wings”, to the visual masterpiece that accompanies “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Queen was already showing off the various ways that they visually wanted to represent their music.

Disc 2 shows the masterwork of Queen in the 1980’s, from 1982’s Hot Space album through 1989’s The Miracle. With the advent of MTV in the US, Queen proved that they could be as creative visually as they were on record. From the Metropolis-themed video for “Radio Ga Ga”, the spoofing of Coronation Street in “I Want To Break Free” (which would be banned from the network) and the band being replaced by children in “The Miracle”, Queen put their stamp on the music video in the best way they knew how: by doing something new and different each time.

Video restoration = taking the 625line interlaced PAL tapes, and converting them to 480p NTSC DVD, correct ? Also I tell you a secret - Queen continued to produce great videos in the 90's too, not just in the 70's and the 80's

"The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor."

I assume that the quality and commentary are the same as the ones on GVH1&2 from some years ago?
In other words, this is just a repackaging of existing material, but for the US market only?

What a missed opportunity AGAIN. As fans, we have waited patiently for the Innuendo videos (not so bothered about the MiH films) for many years, so this is something of an insult that inreality it is exactly what has already been provided, stick the Queen II cover on the box and call it a new release.

These long awaited vids were released on video, so why can't they do a DVD release? Of course the abortion of the Do-Ro release was cutting the ending of TATDOOL's which should never have passed a quality control procedure, but hey, they had my money at that point, who gives a toss about quality?

Really, GT, you appear to be the 'voice' of Queen Productions on queenzone these days, are you not embarrassed about this kind of release, as basically a fan yourself? Be honest.

This product is exactly what it says on the box, an amalgamation of the two previously released 'Greatest Video Hits' compilations.

Just give us Greatest Video Hits 3.

Don't care if the Made In Heaven videos aren't the best, but hey, i can just turn off the TV and enjoy the 5.1... ups 4.1 Surround mix of the songs from it and Innuendo + No One But You.

GVH1 was released 10 years ago and GVH2 9 years ago, i would expect that GVH3 would sit on my collection at least since 2004/2005.

As a famous presenter of a certain tv show about cars would ask: "how hard can it be?"

A good political response.

This is again, a confirmation of Queen fans still being stupid, they buy everything again and again even there are no extra's or improvements.
As if we don't think about what kind of product we buy....LOL
And also the lies from Roger: "there are no interesting songs in the vaults anymore..." i don't believe that and understand why they do such a thing to real Queen fans...
(Greg Brooks told us something else...)

But I still doubt if Brian and Roger decide every release ...... maybe the production company pushes them in some way....

It's FUCKING SIMPLE, Brian ... put out one GH DVD (one to rule them all). Make it a Blu-Ray or something. Get all of the videos, and this time get them all in the right fucking aspect ratio instead of letting some toddler squash them and say it's 16:9. Every video up to Innuendo. Throw in No One But You as the finisher.

Don't really care what the special features are, as we've seen most of the behind the scenes video we're probably ever going to.

Skip all of the Q+ crap. Couldn't be any fucking simpler. Any production team worth a $5 back alley handjob could knock this DVD together in the time it takes Brian to eat his fucking cornflakes. DVD authoring is not rocket science, trust me.

Get the fuck on it already! There is absolutely no excuse not to - not a single one!

This is a great release! It's very smart too! The reason being that "Greatest Video Hits II" did not sell very well in the U.S. and I would bet around the world as well. At least in comparison to "Greatest Video Hits I". This will allow more people to be exposed to more of the short films that they have not seen in the past. Question is are there any bonus features? Remember something can always be put out of print and have something new and different released many years down the road.

As far as the Queen + short films I bet that they are waiting to do new and exciting things that will be better than perhaps some in years past. That's really exciting as well. At that point they can release another compilation of some sort containing more Queen short promotional films.
