Queen star Brian May will always regret the fact he never got the chance to perform the songs I Want It All and The Miracle with late pal Freddie Mercury.
The guitarist has revisited the two promos for upcoming Dvd Queen Greatest Video Hits and he reveals his frontman was ill when he shot the short films in the months leading up to his Aids-related death in 1991.
May admits he would have loved to have performed the two hits with Mercury before he died.
The rocker says, "He (Mercury) was finding it harder to actually find the energy to do things like this (make videos)... A lot of the time in this period he was pretty sick, so it's an amazing effort of will that he managed to do this at all.
"We were never able to perform I Want It All live; it would have become something which was a staple core of the Queen show - it's very participative... It's very anthemic."
And of Mercury's uplifting The Miracle, May adds, "I've always loved the track... and I remember the joy we had in the studio.
"It would have been nice to do this song live... You can certainly imagine this with an audience."

We have a pretty good idea of what I Want It All would've been like anyway - it's been included in pretty much every post-Freddie event apart from Brian's BTTL tour. The Miracle would've been nice. The live setting would've allowed for a more minimalistic approach in terms of synthesizers. They probably would've dropped the 'that time will come' section at the outro, unless they wanted to try and replicate the awkward tempo change.

Hummmmm.... not sure at all !! can picture them playing the outro and, after some "that time will come" verses, going on with Brian soloing, Fred on piano etc etc, and, perhaps, accelerating the tune  for a rocking ending ala "Spread Yout Wings BBC".

These comments are taken from the 'Commentary' track from the old DVD release of Video Hits. Nothing new here...

That's what I was thinking, cmsdrums, although I think you mixed up the "edit this post," and "reply with quote," buttons.

Meh - they're not going to do it much justice with their current Queen + business anyway.

Dear Dr May, stop being so selfish. I bet Freddie would have loved to have lived that little bit longer, just to fulfill your wish. Trust your best mate to let you down, eh?
Does anyone notice how Brain seems really sensible and thoughtful in the old 70's interviews he did, What the fuck has happened to this old fool, now?

He still sounds sensible and thoughtful in interviews now, he just makes odd decisions outside those interviews.

Ah, he's gonna have people picking at him like vultures regardless of what decisions he makes nowadays anyway. I really don't see much selfishness in this particular comment - all he's saying is that he would've cherished the opportunity to play certain songs with Freddie in a live setting which they never got to. You make it seem like he said Freddie's an asshole because he was too ill to do so.
