Dear Queenzone,

Here are two more sources of the Rainbow 11-20-1974 shows.

Source 1 a (Norman Sheffield Acetate):

Norman Sheffield Acetate > Studio > 24/96 rip > Wer_al-Zwore editing to 16-48 Flac> rar (105mb) Including pictures of the items.

1. Procession
2. Now I’m Here
3. Ogre Battle
4. Father To Son
5. White Queen
(all credits for editing to Wer_al-Zwore thanks mate !)

Download link here :
http://www.mijnbestand.nl/Bestand-G7WZY73F4Q3K.rar

Source 1 b (Norman Sheffield Acetate):

Norman Sheffield Acetate > Studio > 24/96 rip (PCM file 977 mb.)

This one is for the audiophiles ! This is the raw transfer... hope no one is going to complain that this acetate was a cd rip ....

1. : Procession-Now I;m Here- Ogre Battle – Father to Son- White Queen

Download link here :
https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/041f379cac72b4569504ff4940c766f220140402082924/87dcfcd142b99fd8c15af11ff7488bf020140402082924/bb82b6

Comments about the acetate : this is a transfer of a acetate , the cut in Father to Son is due to a error on the acetate. Please pay attention how nervous Freddie is during his banter ! This was all edited out on the VHS release.

Source 2 : (35 mm. Film audio transfer)

35mm. Film > audio (took this to video studio so don’t know how they captured the audio. )

(all credits for editing to Wer_al-Zwore thanks mate !)

1 Opening tune CIC
2 Procession
3 Now I;m Here
4 White Queen
5 Killer Queen
6 March of the Black Queen
7 Bring back that Leroy Brown
8 Father to Son
9 Drum Solo
10 Keep yourself alive
11 Liar
12 Stone cold crazy
13 In the lap of the gods revisited
14 God save the Queen

Comments : musically the same , but the audio mix is different, just pay attention to audience reactions.

What?

You must be confusing appreciation for the unearthing of new music with dissection of the original source of the music. These are not mutually exclusive.

Example:

Thanks for posting this great stuff !

vs.

Did you meet Norman Sheffield personally? If so, can you guarantee that the acetate is indeed as old as he said it was?

^ these are separate issues. One does not somehow preclude the other.

Healthy conversation is welcome. We mustn't lose sight of that. This is what keeps the quality of dialogue high, and sets this place apart from those riddled with swarms of yes-men who lack in basic curiosity.

Thank a lot for raw transfer of acetate! It's a pity there's a hole in FTS...

There is nothing I can change about this. It is a scratch on the acetate. I like to think that NS smashed it when he heared Queen got the no. 1 slot in the charts with Boh Rhap. There is a huge scratch on the acetate. All teh studio could do is push the needle forward to where it got to play correct again.... this is fate.......

This is certainly the way to accomplish that.

Myself - I think the cut in Father To Son is there because they already had the "fake medley" concept for the video figured out (the fake medley was on the 1976 cinema version, as we now know), and they only pressed what they actually needed to the acetate, as acetates tend to be working versions at a particular time in the process.

The edit doesn't sound like a needle finding a skip. Where the song cuts back in, it is clearly a tape speeding up as if the pause button has been pressed to un-pause playback. 100% this is not the sound of a record needle being placed onto vinyl.

The vocal overdubs are still there. This may well be from the 20th, but it remains possible that this is simply a working version of the audio to be used for the video which actually contains audio of both nights.

Let's hope this sparks some good healthy discussion.
