If America get Classic Queen, why can't the Japanese get something completely different of their own? Peace Adam.

I just think it's strange that the Japanese still have all these re-releases. 2/3 years ago there was "In Vision" - plus the multiple re-re-releases of the back catalogue over the years....

I'm quite jealous of the newest remasters. They're exactly what I've been talking about (i.e. 24-bit remasters) for a long time. Finally it happened, but they're only in Japan. Compilations are for certain people and not others. Each to their own. Peace, Adam.

What's this one REALLY going to be called -- "Take The Money and Run, Part IV"? So many ways to remarket songs...so many fans, so little time...(This must be what Jim Beach is thinking)

Hey hey hey! If these are also the 24-bit remasters, then they're worth twice as much now! Thanks for the heads-up Pim. Peace, Adam.

I'm not fully educated about the 24 bit remasters. From what I understand, the first 8 (studio) albums were done first in '98, available individually in Japan and as box sets in the U.K. and U.S. (Crown Jewels) Then the rest were done in 2001 but those aren't available anywhere else, is that right? From a technical standpoint, The Works through Made in Heaven were all digital recordings, or at least from the mixing point on.. so there isn't a lot to gain in quality beyond the original releases is there? I was reading an answer from Justin Shirley-Smith at http://www.brianmay.com/brian/brianssb/experts.html where he states that remasters are basically just amplified and tone adjusted versions of 'flat stereo masters'. Going by that, we can all remaster anything by simply increasing the volume and adjusting the bass & treble ;) LOL

The sleeve of the Greatest TV Hits cd (now called Queen - Jewels) is at brianmay.com in the newssection. Horrible, looks like a 5 year old has used Photoshop for the first time.

"From a technical standpoint, The Works through Made in Heaven were all digital recordings, or at least from the mixing point on.. so there isn't a lot to gain in quality beyond the original releases is there?" Actually, there's more than you think. This has been kindly demonstrated by the dvd-a discs. Brian and many serious people in audio have been starting to call 24-bit 96khz transfers, very close to vinyl. The sound is better represented. But the most damning reason, from my point of view, is to fix the sound of Works -to- Innuendo. The 2001 remasters should have sorted that. Hopefully. "remasters are basically just amplified and tone adjusted versions of 'flat stereo masters'. Going by that, we can all remaster anything by simply increasing the volume and adjusting the bass & treble ;) LOL" Anyone can push a few buttons and up the bass and treble. But remastering is a lot of things. A delicate process where specific frequencies are found and either enhanced or toned down. Basically, made ear-friendly. Most amateurs will pick up software like Magix clean and think they've just created a master. :) It has been confirmed on Brianmay.com that the new special paper-made sleeves from TOSHIBA EMI will have the 2001 Japanese remastered sound! Check - http://www.brianmay.com/queen/queennews/queennews.html **Sat 27 Dec 03** QUEEN RE-RELEASE STUDIO ALBUMS IN JAPAN Peace, Adam.

The track list of 'Jewels' seemed a little strange at first, but I've made my own copy and it actually works well. The music totals about 62:30 if they use full-length versions so there could have been a few more tracks though.

Well, I'm definitely going to get the 2004 cardsleeves. Brian talks about them in his soapbox and it sounds great. Made In Heaven with the evening pic, Flash with an embossed sleeve, The Game with the mirror-sleeve.... I'd better start saving :-)

I agree Dan. Nobody is forced to buy them :) Except perhaps the ones that have one or two new tracks (Rocks or GH III) but even then, you can usually find them on a CD single.
