Hi There,

When i look at the freddie solo dvd, the dvd from the box set, i always wonder where they recorded the "so-called" live (mimed) preformances of the freddie-monserat concert. The only thing i know is the Ibiza concert.. Has anyone got an answer?

I think it was recorded at the Ku Club, if I'm not mistaken?

The version that starts off the collection was filmed at La Nit in Barcelona on the occasion of the delivery of the Olympic flag in 1988.

The Golden Boy is also taken from that.

If you watch the director interviews on the disc, he'll explain about the lip-synching and how there were problems with it.

But I'll tell you anyway... The 'performances' were always meant to be lip-synched, however the playback tape was a little slow (which Freddie noticed and became furious about) and that resulted in problems with re-dubbing the recorded version for the final product, because it would be a different speed. It was gotten around by only showing a few seconds of singing in one shot at a time so it didn't go out of synch too badly.

According to Peter Freestone's book, the KU appearance was done first... but it doesn't sound like this is the one we see here, because he mentions 'Golden Boy' coming from La Nit as well as 'Barcelona' and these two performances are obviously from the same place... but now I've even confused myself :)

You are right, Deacon Fan, the Ku Club performance is not on the video collection, it's the La Nit event in Barcelona.

I do not want any google ads here.

They were all taken from La Nit. I found the most unlikely source now for this information.. the booklet in the DVD! LOL.

"Featuring Freddie and Montserrat on the steps of the splendid Montjurich Castle, in front of the Son et Lumiere fountains at Palace de Expositions, in the Catalan Capital, this performance directed by Gavin Taylor, was filmed on October 8 1987, during La Nit musical extravaganza.
The event was to honour the arrival of the Olympic flag from Seoul.

Topping the bill in grand style, Freddie and Montserrat performed three songs: Barcelona, The Golden Boy and How Can I Go On, in the presence of the King and Queen of Spain. Also on the bill was one of Freddie's idols Rudolf Nureyev."

Perhaps this information isn't in the Solo Collection version. Mine is the U.S. singularly released Video Collection disc.
