Now where on Earth did I find this?

Edit: Had to remove the file, sorry. I have limited webspace and wanted to get my latest edit up in its place.

LMAO

Very good remix, btw. Not like a dance or re-arranging-type remix, but this is different. It sounds as if someone had access to the 1991 Remix mastertapes and changed the stereo effects.

I give it 5 out of 5

Wow, I wasn't expecting replies already this late at night ;)

I was hoping for desperate collectors drooling and begging to know where I got it, then I'd piss them off by admitting that I made it myself.

One channel is the original stereo mix, combined into one channel. The other is something called the OOPS effect. It's basically the frequencies which you'd hear in the rear channels if you played the song through Pro-Logic surround.

Depending on the song, this can remove vocals or bring out interesting stuff. There's a bunch of Beatles songs that are extremely interesting this way. Here's a page from a Beatles site that explains some ways to do it:

Just download Cool Edit shareware and use the vocal removal. What a strange thing to post. :S

Peace,
Adam.

Thanks for your interest Adam. Indeed, that's the easiest way to do it. I was using the select one channel, invert & combine deal for a long time before I realized Sound Forge had the 'vocal cut' option. It's a lot quicker plus it automatically keeps it a 2-channel file.

I just thought this was fun because I went beyond that and made a sort of Beatle-esque vocal on one channel type of thing.

While we're on the subject, if there is a way to remove all sound that has been panned dead center, it must also work the other way around. Is there a trick that leaves you with pretty much the clean lead vocal?

I wish there was, but I don't think so. You can mess with the EQ to isolate those frequencies as much as possible, but you're still going to hear other stuff.

I'm afraid the only way to get truly separate tracks, is with separate tracks, such as with the 5.1 mixes on DVD/DVD-A.

Someone else, perhaps Adam can explain how to extract those separately.. I don't have a DVD drive nor DTS on my amp, so I'm yet to even experience these, except for the separate files others have done. There's a few at Queen Picture Hall:

Yes, try that link to that Queen site.

I'm sure there was someone else on here that extracted the DTS parts from the disc. I can't remember how.

Peace,
Adam.

"I'm sure there was someone else on here that extracted the DTS parts from the disc. I can't remember how."

Ron and I both ripped the GVH1+2 DVD's and TG & ANATO DVD-A's. Took me some time to figure it out, but once you get how it works it's very easy.

Link doesn't work Pim :-/

After some reading on Brian's site about the surround mixes, I guess you won't get much in terms of isolated lead vocals after all. Seems the brilliant minds in charge decided to do basically 4.1 mixes and hardly utilize the center channel at all. *sigh*

I'm sure the mixes are no less fun and exciting, but I certainly don't agree with Mr. Shirley-Smith's reasoning for this. Seems a terrible waste to me.

Here's what I posted over at QOL:

I appreciate what Justin is saying.. but it's a case of him doing what he likes and justifying it in his own way. I don't happen to agree. This argument about the center being an almost cinema-exclusive tool... silly.

Why not make the music theatrical, why not have the vocal be the centerpiece? As he himself states, if you don't want the vocal in the center, simply adjust your receiver so that it sends the signal to the left & right. That would have been the way to go.. center it, as many would say it should be, and if someone doesn't like it, THEY can choose to send it to the other speakers. The way he's chosen removes the option of the user choosing their preference and simply says 'this is what I feel is right, so there!'

Imagine how cool it would be to hear a pure Freddie vocal track in one channel for the length of a song. That's one of the things I was looking forward to. Oh well.

You can achieve that with the FM video collection.

DF, I think you're forgetting that these mixes are made with Brian and Roger's help. That way, if they think it's wrong, they change it. JSS is only there to be mixing etc. Brian and Roger are the artists. They say whether they want it or not.
And if you listen to Play The Game (DVD-A), the center channel has Freddie's vox on its own. Didn't you know?

Btw, what happened to that DTS stripping page?

Peace,
Adam.

P.S. If it sounds good, what's the problem??

P_G: While some of them are surprisingly well isolated from other instruments, none have a purely vocal track on its own.

Adam, yes they had approval of the mixes, but ask yourself this question: Have they ever approved things that weren't exactly loved by the masses? LOL

I haven't heard any of these, neither the DVD-A or the DVDs since I don't have DTS. I only have DVD-V players and DD 5.1.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap stand-alone DTS decoder to plug into my existing receiver? It's got a 6-channel input panel, but also 2 spare digital ins.. coax & optical.

You mean, you don't like those DVD-A's?? I think everyone who has heard these in their 5.1 glory agrees that it adds a nice new perspective.

And the FM videos don't have isolated vocals because..? Don't know? Fred's solo album was deleted. There ain't much left of it.

Peace,
Adam.
