Did anybody else read about this on Brianmay.com?

The commercial is bad enough but this cries sellout even more to me. Brian must be short of cash or something. He no longer seems interested in making new music, just rehasing the same old stuff, over and over and over and over again. How many versions of We Will Rock You have their been over the last 13 years?!

I suppose you are referring to the changes in the lyrics for that night, adding all kind of Pepsi references into the songs ? I wonder who wrote them.

I copied this from amq:

Theatre jeers for queens of pop
by CLAIR WEAVER, Evening Standard

It was one of the most expensive soft drink promotions ever and included
three of the world's hottest pop divas.

But the premiere of the Pepsi Gladiators advertisement - which features
Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink clad in skimpy gladiator outfits singing We
Will Rock You - left many fans furious after an expected performance never
materialised.

Having met thousands of fans and been interviewed by press from around the
world in Trafalgar Square, the trio were scheduled to appear at the Dominion
Theatre, where the musical of Queen's We Will Rock You is playing.

But an hour after the show was due to start, they had still not appeared.

The audience began slow clapping, whistling and shouting "Hurry up" and "Get
on with the show".

A flustered event official was overheard saying: "She's had a big strop and
still hasn't arrived. We said just get up on the stage and do your thing."

It was unclear which of the stars she was referring to.

Finally, a Pepsi official took to the stage to announce the new three-minute
advertisement would be screened.

The announcement was met with a collective groan.

When the three stars, accompanied by Queen members Brian May and Roger
Taylor, walked on stage, there was a lukewarm response.

A minute later and without saying a word, they had left.

I do not want any google ads here.

"Brian must be short of cash or something."

I really had the same thought about Roger. Didn't he also (have to???) sell his house? Sorry, don't want to give currency to a rumour and probably Roger had other reasons. But the thought is obvious.

Brian's approach is TOTALLY, TOTALLY wrong. He always suggests that he doesn't do this for money and that "it's great fun to work with such a talented artist like ". For fuck's sake, shouldn't be this the other way? Shouldn't Britney say "oh, it was a great honour to work with such a legendary musician"? It's a real shame. This was from the very beginning a Pepsi ad with three pop "stars". Brian and Roger were there just to collect the money.

Oh, and I never understood the big deal about Pepsi/Coca Cola. Both taste the same to me and I don't drink either of them anyway because each of these drinks includes more shitty substances than virtually any alcohol. Thank you but I don't want to look like a fat pig.

They changed some lines for that eventful night. Oh no! It went back to normal the next.
I think all this Pepsi talk has been going on for too long. It's not really going anywhere now. They all made some cash, the girls and boys had some fun and us guys..? We got to fight! Shall I get the football? :)

Peace,
Adam.

Oh, please, guys. You know, maybe Brian actually does consider it fun to work with Britney, I wouldn't know, I'm not him. And in all honesty, I don't have that big a problem with it, the band never out up an anti-commercial front. It is therefore NOT SELLING OUT! GOD, I hate it when people do that!

I would rather it not be Pepsi, the most disgusting soft-drink ever...

God wants you to send me some money.

About a couple of years ago, Pieter and I joked about who would be the next crap "artist" to work with Brian.. We were like.."Ha ha..yeah...what's next..BRITNEY SPEARS..haha.." :-( Pepsification of the musical...that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard yet. I would have been so pissed if I paid good money to go see the musical only to find myself at an extended advertisement for Pepsi. Pepsi sucks anyway..;-)

Eh?? That's like telling every panto in the land to stop being topical! And it was only for one night. How unforgiving are people right now?

Peace,
Adam.

Yeah, but if it was the one night I happened to be there, I wouldn't of liked it.

Boo hoo, some insignificant words were changed. I'm surprised it would ruin it for you.
Why is it comedians get away with one night jokes, but a successful musical can't?

Peace,
Adam.

Hang on a minute...

Maybe this has nothing to do with money! Nobody has mentioned the E word: EXPOSURE

As a regular kind of 28 year old english guy I can't stand the Monarchy/ Royal family but if Queen and the cast hadn't of played at the Buckingham palace gig (and Prince Phillip's Party in the park) We will rock you might not even be still running now!

Also, even though I'm quite 'left' in my politics, there's nothing wrong with wanting to make a bit more money. Brian is a self confessed work-a-holic so again money might not even be an issue.

Roger on the other hand is a different kettle of fish...!!!

"How many versions of We Will Rock You have their been over the last 13 years?!"

To answer your question, not counting unofficial remixes

Original Version (1977)
BBC Slow/Fast Version (1977)
Live Killers version bside (1979)
Rick Rubin Remixes (feat. Chad and Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers) (1991 - even though there was no new Queen material recorded)
Wembley 86 single version (1992, double A with Champions live)
5ive Version (1999 featuring Brian May)
5ive Version - Radio Edit (featuring Queen)
John Farnham Version (2003)
Pepsi Version (Queen + Britney, Beyonce, Pink) (2003, released 2004)

My bet goes to Robbie Williams next

I joked about it on this noticeboard, and someone was like "don't even joke about it".
There we have it.

I used to say the same ("thank god he works with 5ive; just imagine if it was Britney Spears instead").

But Brian is right and we're all stupid. Can't you see how talented Britney is and what a great honour for Queen it is to appear in a videoclip with her for half a second?

When you put it like that, of course Brian is right and we are all idiots.
