Just a while ago this past lunch hour, during the Fr. Troy Basketball Tournament opening celebrations (which is THE most popular high school basketball event anywhere in Canada, here in Edmonton - we have students from Canada come to play basketball from their high schools here at St. Joes - last year we even had a German high school team flown in!), some members of our Instrumental Jazz Music program group, during soundcheck, improvised a short version of We Will Rock You, for about 1-2 minutes, instrumentally, but no guitars or vocals.

Was pretty good though. If I can find a videotape recording I'll post an MP3

Ah this brings back memories.

Back in the days when it was all fields and black and white we used to have a subject called English. While waiting for our teacher, my form, 3C (none of this Year 9 malarky) had an impromptu jam session, which involved every lad in the class banging on his desk and clapping We Will Rock You. Great days.

Actually it ended with some buggers jumping up and down on tables and my old pal Paul 'Scoffa' Schofield getting half strangled.

Then Stupot and Gripper had a fight...oh hang on that wasn't me.

Did any of you other guys have WWRY played by school bands (whether inst. or not) for sporting events or any kind of events when you all were in school?

(Actually, this is the first time since I've been to St. Joe's that the band actually even improvised WWRY, because not too many people listen to Queen really)

Actually yeah our band used to play that during the football games at our high school here in the US, and I bet most others probably did too. I can't remember if we played "We Are The Champions" too. (Interestingly, our band teacher also used "Bohemian Rhapsody" in his music theory class.)

I remember when I was a freshman in 1987, our senior drummer actually asked if I knew "We Will Rock You", and I said um yeah I have every Queen album :)

Back in the day we used to play We Will Rock You and Another One Bites the Dust..however most of the band was comprised of 3 clarinets/3 flutes/a sax and 5 trumpets so AOBTD sounded crude. Of course at the time I was oblivious to Queen at the time and just believed it to be a rather interesting ditty.

Of course during last year I did manage to turn 5 people into Queen fans.
