not really a Queen topic but apparently the seller of the 10 DVd Live aid set on the internet has been arrested and is out on bail.... Bob Geldof was said to be sickened... and he personally intervened ... The guy was selling the full set for £110.

Since when is $11 per DVD a rip off when the music industry is too lazy too sell it? It's not like it is commercially available, and no one is holding a gun to your head making you buy it. Commercial DVD's cost double that and bootlegs are usually more expensive anyway ...

I have no problem with him selling Live Aid. He just was silly to do that on ebay.

Here's a great idea: Why don't RECORD COMPANIES sell something for a change (rather than leaving it to bootleggers)???

Here here - it would be a surefire hit with loads of serious and casual fans! Hopefully something for the 20th anniversary?

Wasn't it already discussed that selling Live Aid to the masses would actually result in the artists getting bugger all? And what's Bob's angle on selling this? I'm pretty sure it wasn't an easy thing to do. Some things are harder to do than others. This isn't a bootleg of just any old concert. We shouldn't forget what these people's views were. I'm sure it'll be on tv next year. Then we can all record it. Then everyone's happy. Peace, Adam.

The full length version is gonna be on TV in the USA next year. Wow! Thanks for that wonderful information. Is that before or after the box sets?

Sure it's illegal, but hasn't it crossed Bob Geldof's mind that releasing the whole concert on DVD or a Box CD set would be a great reason to keep fighting for the cause. As far as I'm concerned all the artists and their record companies have agreed to give the rights of the performances to be used for charity. Besides, despite all the money raised in 1985 to help against famine and poverty in Africa, the whole problem is far from over.

Indeed - the whole concert is like 12-14 hours I think? Make that in a 5 or 6 dvd box, includes some extra's like the Band Aid video, a documentary and stuff.... Reemaster the whole package etc and loads of people will buy it - fans of Queen, Phil Collins, U2, Led Zeppelin etc etc.

But before getting our hopes up about features and dvd sets, maybe we should actually check why it has never been released. I'm sure there must be a reason.

There is indeed a good reason. Back in 1985 fans were screaming for the release of the whole concert right after the show, but to no avail. Bob Geldof personally announced that there would be no official release, as there was no way of working out all the legal arrangements with the different managements. Don't get your hopes up! Thanks Kevo :) Interesting strategy there.. rather than find a distributor and handle getting rights from the artists himself (and then giving the proceeds to charity) he's chosen to auction the rights to release it, and then that entity will have to get the permissions. Very very interesting :) Hope whoever wins it does it properly. Hey!!!!!! We gotta tell Brian about this.. maybe Queen could buy the rights! Then we'd never see it! LOL

Damn! Just when you think you know something.... :-) I sure hope they release the whole concert, and not just the most famous bits and pieces.
