Opening everywhere tomorrow, the remake of George Romero's 1978 zombie masterpiece "Dawn of the Dead" is taking dead aim (pardon the pun) at that *other* rising from the grave box office hit, "The Passion of the Christ", to claim the #1 spot at the weekend box office.

I was already planning on seeing it anyway but when the USA Network aired the first 10 minutes of the movie uncensored last Monday night, it sealed the deal with me. Tense, chilling and yeah, scary!

I've always been a sucker for apocalypse films and let's face it, there hasn't been a top flight zombie flick in 15 years(!) No, "28 Days Later" doesn't count, those weren't zombies.

Anyway, is anybody else here planning on seeing it?

I think I'd rather watch the original one. Funny. As. Hell. Remember the part where the biker dude jammed his machete through that zombie's head? I laughed through the whole end of the movie because of that! And if THAT's not funny enough, look no further than the VERY laughable "acting". True cinematic beauty.

"that *other* rising from the grave box office hit,"

Funniest thing you've ever written, Michael.

Given the fact that I have never seen the original 1978 version of 'Dawn of the Dead', I'll say that I was impressed.

The film was very fast paced. There were scenes that I actually leaped out of my seat (i.e. the pregnant woman's womb, with a zombie baby trying to get out of the womb) The zombie faces were absolutetly gory, and the tearing out of the flesh was so so uh gory too.

The opening credits alone made my hairs stand on end. It was FANTASTIC! The news images, the gore, the zombie faces, and the attacks while the song "The Man Comes Around" by Johny Cash played really fits.

Great film overall. Will try to see the original version soon.

Saw it tonight and loved it.

If you haven't seen the original, you may or may not be disappointed, it's quite different.

saw this film on Friday

The film rocked, I've never seen the original, so I can't compare , But I enjoyed this one for

1, the amazing editing and camera angles
2. the poignancy of the baby and the the guy who got bitten and the decision to be made
3. The black humour which ultimatly made the film for me
4. The "music to motion", which linked lyrics to the actual action sequences
5. The characters , like Andy playing chess on the rooftop, and CJ with his porn star moustache
6 the amazing credit reel, which meant you could leave the theatre happy or sad, pick your own ending
7. Its set up for a sequel
8. The pace
9. the many twists and turns
10. the nervous laughter and terrified shrieks in the cinema, and mucho spilt popcorn by the audience = added ambience to the movie
