"Unfortunately, most record companies release albums in just one high-density format. So 'Dark Side of the Moon' is only on SACD, while Queen's 'A Night At the Opera' is strictly DVD-A."

Just thought it was cool they chose my two favorite bands, and they mentioned ANATO out of every other disc available here in the US :) (April issue, page 130)

What a shitty thing to say about bands only going for one format! The real problem comes down to the rival formats joke that happens these days. VHS vs Betamax - Records vs Cd - DVD-A vs SACD. Not to mention the current idiotic rival dvd recording formats - Dvd-r vs Dvd+r! When in all honesty there isn't a need for two different formats, unless one outperforms the other. And dvd-r vs +r - Difference is..??? Not much. Shame Betamax didn't win, eh!?

I'm sick to the teeth of this rubbish and it's the kind of tactic that leaves most consumers wondering what to do. Sony needed a rival format. But why? Money. The only difference between Sacd and Dvd is how the system delivers the data. From what I've read, the sound is processed in a very similar way and therefore they don't sound that different, if at all! Sacd uses...Sony's own sound system. Hmm... And people complain about DTS playback? Count yourselves lucky.

However the only good thing about rival formats THESE days is that both are usually the same in quality terms. As mentioned about sacd and dvd, above. That still doesn't make playing the 'other' format easy cause you gotta get a new player for the new format. Sickening... But of course, it'll come down to the most popular. And for most of the western world, that seems to be Dvd. Not for too much longer according to "blu-ray". Here we go again!

Peace,
Adam.

Well they weren't bashing the bands themselves, just the record companies.
