Killer Queen

The 30th anniversary of Queen's first hit single is fast approaching. The band took 'Seven Seas of Rhye' to No. 10 back in May of 1974, and they have decided to celebrate with a one-off concert and perhaps a charity single. Only problem is that their singer, Freddie Mercury, died 13 years ago. Naturally, Queen fan Justin Hawkins is the only man for the job.

The People reports that Brian May, Queen's poodle permed axe god, got together with Justin and his brother Dan at a club in London last weekend and thrashed out the details. The paper's source says: "Queen have been talking about a collaboration for a while and they finally got down to sorting it out last week."

All the proceeds from the collaboration look set to go to Freddie's favourite charidees, The Terrance Higgins Trust or Children in Need. It looks set to be one hell of a team up, if only because Justin is the only guy on earth who could possibly pull off the same kind of outfits that Mecury used to wear. Break out the boas!

Dunno if it's the wrong date, but I'm sure it was released in February 1974. Could be that it got in the charts later on ofcourse :)

If this news is true, I hope they will perform some of those early tracks and not just the crappy commercial ones ;)

Whilst I like Mr Hawkins, I just can't imagine him singing Queen songs. Also, the article mentions John playing which is, I'm sure we all know, extremely unlikely to ever happen again. If it happens I'll be the first to sign up for it all, but to be totally honest with you I'm not convinced as to the validity of this particular story. A UK gig certainly has to be a distinct possibility, however.

I really wish this is not true! That Justin guy is one of the most annoying rock singers today. The only reason I don't talk bad about him in public is that he is a Queen fan. I really hope that Queen would not team up with anyone, because any new lead singer would immediately be compared with Freddie and we all know that it's pretty hard to be compared to the best man in the business.

I (and many other fans) have lots of recordings by the best possible line-up, so why would I want to hear some "new" recording with a line-up that is not the best? Just my opinion though.

*goes and listens to a bootleg with Freddie, Brian, Roger and John playing live.

No need to let the facts get in the way of the hysteria....

We KNOW why Brian met the Darkness - he took them to the musical - granted he could have discussed something else with them, but I doubt the Sunday People would know anything about it.

Secondly, PIM HAS THE CORRECT DATE FOR SSOR.

Thirdly, Queen's 30th anniversary was either Jan 2001, or, in terms of recording, July 2003. Why would they choose SSOR?

This post will be followed by the same tired old argument about frontmen. Robbie Williams, George Michael, Jeff Scott Soto, Robbie Valentine, Pink.

Wake me up when something FUCKING HAPPENS!

seeing the Darkness Wed. 3/31 in Pittsburgh...wondering if Justin wil say anything. In the new Spin he says his favorites bands are Queen, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, and Neil Diamond. Ah well!

If it happens, great.

If it doesn't happen, great too.

I really don't care about this Queen + anymore.

They can stage a benefit for people with no assholes for all I care.

I never compare because it's fruitless. What good comes from comparing? F-all! I take a similar approach to Shoujo - great if it happens and who cares if it doesn't? I'd be happy just to see some of the guys playing. And of course to hear good live music.
I'm sick of neysayers. It's getting old and very...er... harmful? The last few months have seen much negativity to anything they do. There are very few things that I would never want from them. Let them be who they want to be. We're just watching their lives and I feel extremely privelaged to be on the receiving end of anything they happen to do these days.

Like it, don't like it, it's your call. But please, why all the name calling?

Peace,
Adam.
