Hello: Today I was using my Internet Explorer but doing anything unusual, while Zone Alarm requested me to allow the "Realtime Audio Engine" (to be exactly, the file mmrtkrnl.exe) to access the internet. I denied it because I don´t remember installing that software and besides that I was only browsing ebay and it never needs the Realtime Audio Engine! Then I scanned my PC with two antiviruses: AVG and Norton, both updated with the latest virus definitions, and the Lavasoft Ad-Aware. No virus were found and only the usual cookies were detected by the Ad-Aware. I´d only like to know if this is unusual or if it could be a virus that none of my AV´s detected... I have three files in my Windows directory that seem to be related with this: mmrtkrnl.exe, mmrtkrnl.dll and mmrtkrnl.vxd. I couldn´t find very much useful information in the internet, and I´d really appreciate some help because I am a little worried, although I think that it´s no big deal. Thanks!!

"Just looking around google, a few sites are mentioning a browser hijack attempt linked to mmrtkrnl.exe."

Yes, I found the same, but then I visited those sites and it´s not exactly a hijack attempt, it´s just something that appears in a log file after scanning the PC with the "Hijack This", and this thing appears along with many normal things and some that are not common. Then, some members from those forums warned the original posters about other things, but nothing regarding this one.

Thanks again for your help! :)

I guess that it was related to the Kazaa... the other day I had been using it quite a lot and after reading those forums it seems that there is some relation with it, although the mmrtkrnl.exe file is a normal thing. I have decided to uninstall Kazaa and then I also used the "Kazaabegone" soft to get rid of all the resident related files...
