Here's some random anger:

In yesterday's newspaper, the front page was all about the recent investigations into 9/11, which was a few thousand American deaths.

On page 15, there was a small article commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Rwanda massacre, which killed well over a half million people.

Permission to say the American/Canadian media and general public are only interested in their own people, and screw the African people? Permission assumingly granted.

I think now is a good time to note that 4000 people in Africa die of AIDS, every day.

Shame on the media, and anyone who is still grieving over 9/11, and not the Rwanda tragedy, the AIDS crisis, or countless other things that kill/killed thousands or millions more.

Thank you for your time.

As of right now, this post, http://www.queenzone.com/queen/forum/topic_view.asp?Q_FORUM_ID=3&Q_FORUM_NAME=Personal&Q_FORUM_TOPIC_ID=342618&TOPIC_SUBJECT=Rwanda was exactly 8 posts down from yours.

Permission to say some people are only interested in their own posts, and screw what other people post?...

Excuse me for not noticing a similar topic was posted an hour before! Nice try there, trying to be the hero and insult GH like the others. Why don't you guys start a cult?

For those not interested in insulting me, the name of topic I chose was completely coincidental, and wasn't meant as a separate "reaction" to Zeni's topic.

"I think it is only natural for people to find something which happened on their own doorstep more tangible and upsetting than something happening miles and miles away."

I suppose... But in saying this, you can pretty much conlude that the average person doesn't have the capicity to view nearby happenings and worldwide happenings on the same scale. But average citizens cannot be completely at fault for this. The media is what has made this "natural", as you put it. If the media would make things like Rwanda and the AIDS crisis front page or page 2 news, it would be the talk of the streets, as well as 9/11, which was literally a small fraction of devestation in comparison to these two above issues.

"Check the date/time of Zeni's post again GH."

Whoops! Looks like I was a day late. Well, I'll say I don't often check the personal section!

And ond more thing to Bohardy... read the first post of this topic. Does that initial sentence look like it's in reply to another topic, or a topic starter? I think the answer to that will lie hand in hand with whether or not what you said to me was fair.

Big Black was apparently going to send me a mix disc of Extreme, but my mailbox remains vacant. I'll keep you updated.

GH, I know full well that you weren't reacting or posting in response to Zeni's post in any way.

I just couldn't resist a little bit of satirical joshing.

Agreed. But when did the media ever put an emphasis on the significance of the events? It's sensationalism that sells...

I feel like a complete hermit after not reading newspaper, not listening to radio and not watching TV for seven months... must start checking out news from time to time.
