Like it says on the tin...no Queen allowed though cos that would be too easy and this'll make Danno and MexQueen think a bit.

1. Pulp - Different Class
2. Radiohead - The Bends
3. Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
4. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
5. Elvis - 1

I really should have made it ten albums!!

1- Billy Joel "River Of Dreams"
2- Jethro Tull "Original Masters"
3- No Doubt "Tragic Kingdom"
4- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Greatest Hits"
5- Queensryche "Empire"

And Archie, I wouldn't have even thought of picking a Queen album this time. Quite the shock I know...

And yes, Ten albums would've been much better. ;p

Good question, but I think that since most people are not exactly "fans" of all those bands, the first right choice are the compilations. But from studio albums and compilations, I'd definitely pick:

- Queen (Greatest Hits I & II)
- Beatles (1)
- Elton John (Greatest Hits 1970-2002)
- Guns N' Roses (Appetite For Destruction)
- Metallica (Metallica/aka Black Album)

However, if we're talking about studio albums, that's another story.

I have way too many to recommend, but I'll try to list one per artist.

- Magical Mystery Tour (The Beatles)
- Thriller (Michael Jackson)
- Bat Out Of Hell (Meat Loaf)
- Dookie (Green Day)
- Houses Of The Holy (Led Zeppelin)
- Get A Grip (Aerosmith)
- Californication (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
- Nevermind (Nirvana)
- The Wall (Pink Floyd)
- Hysteria (Def Leppard)
- Faith (George Michael)
- Back In Black (AC/DC)
- Look Sharp (Roxette)
- True Blue (Madonna)
- 1984 (Van Halen)
- All That You Can't Leave Behind (U2)
- The Stranger (Billy Joel)
- Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness (Smashing Pumpkins)
- Tragic Kingdom (No Doubt)
- Slippery When Wet (Bon Jovi)

Let it Be - The Beatles - a sparse and raw look at a band falling apart.

An Innocent Man - Billy Joel - just a truly terrific album

White Ladder - David Gray - adds new meaning to the phrase "Get Down", don't listen to it more than twice in one day without calling the Samaritans first

Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf and Steinman - Meatloaf only ever cut it when Steinman wrote for him and this album has the most stupendous opening/title track in the whole history of history itself, ever, probably.

Swing When You're Winning - Robbie Williams - okay he doesn't have the voice of Sinatra et al, but he knows how to put on a show, and more importantly have fun doing it in an arrogant jumped up little twat kind of way.

As for greatest hits albums the five I would go for would be

The Rolling Stones
Abba
The Bee Gees
REM
John Denver

Honorable mentions in both departments would go to Guns and Roses, John Lennon, Travelling Wilburys, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan/T Rex, Led Zepplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac, U2, Police...the list goes on
