CDJAPAN'S NEW SERVICES

Upgraded Shipping Charge

Starting at 10am on June 28, 2004 (Japan Standard Time), we will lower our shipping charge. It will also be simplified, and handling fee will be included.

More Shipping Methods

Starting at 10am on June 28, 2004 (Japan Standard Time), more shipping methods will be available.

Economy Air (SAL)
This is the shipping method for customers who prefer cheaper shipping method. Parcels sent by Economy Air (SAL) are loaded on airplanes when there is an open space. This makes lower shipping charge possible, but it takes extra time for delivery.

-Usually delivered in 1-3 weeks after the order is shipped. *May take up to 12 weeks.
-We will not register SAL parcels, and it will not require signature of recipient upon delivery. If you would like to ensure that your package is to be delivered accurately and safely, we recommend Registered Air Mail. For more reliable delivery, we recommend EMS.

Air Mail (Non-registered)
Previously, we registered all Air Mails to ensure accurate delivery of the parcels by requiring signature of the recipient at the time of delivery. However, this added an extra cost. We will have Air Mail (Non-registered) for customers who prefer cheaper shipping method, while preferring to have their orders delivered more rapidly than by Economy Air (SAL).

-Usually delivered in 4-12 days after the order is shipped. *May take up to 8 weeks.
-Air Mail will not require signature of recipient upon delivery. If you would like to ensure that your package is to be delivered accurately and safely, we recommend Registered Air Mail. For more reliable delivery, we recommend EMS.

Good to see someone else likes that website too -- very good prices and lots of Queen stuff to be had!
I especially like the "first editions" of the DVDs. The Japanese are good at their marketing ploys, and it's great to have the chance to actually get a chance to own them. My Jewels DVD is a first edition, and the upcoming Karaoke Hits (release date 20 July) will rival the laserdisc; can't wait for the bonus tracks!!

BTW, EMS is Global Priority and quite expensive -- I found that out the hard way!!

I know what you mean.

Last year I bought 2 CD's (Pokemon "Polka O Dolka", Asuca Hayashi "Chiisaki Mono") and a DVD (Asuca Hayashi, "Chiisaki Mono" + bonus 1-track CD) from CDJapan, and it ended up costing me $60-$70 CDN altogether, because I had to send cash registered, the US$ was expensive then, and I ended up paying $8 CDN in custom duties and service charges.

Now I wish I hadn't bought it last year, but how was I to know a year from now that they would have had cheaper shipping?

Of course, I can bet you that some people like Rien are gonna be pissed about this news now, however good it may be for current and future customers.

YIKE!!! That's expensive!!!
Registered airmail from Japan to the US (for the upcoming Karaoke Greatest Hits) is $4.49 US dollars because it's a 2-DVD set. The previous DVD (Final Live) cost only $3.50 US dollars for shipping.
Here it is if you'd like to have a look!

Very clear, gorgeous and the sound is excellent!

I just actually had a look. But thanks for the link, Lisa.

I'm not interested in most DVD's that don't have an official Queen connection; "We Will Rock You" 2001 is an exception.

But holy man are the CD's and DVD's on that site ever expensive compared to the $16.99 CDN CD's back here at home ($29.99 CDN for DVD's on average).

Could be worse though.

On CDJapan the Pokemon Jirachi movie DVD costs $36.95 US; on JPopHelp, that same DVD costs $47.01 US!! (*But then, that last site is based in North America, so...)

Yeah I've found that cdjapan has better shipping and slightly better pricing than HMV. For example, the EMS shipping for my new karaoke DVD which releases on the 14th was only $17 and I usually pay practically the full cost of a 4th card sleeve when I order three of those from HMV.

Still a bit pricey for a single disc though. Total of about $59. For awhile they had it listed as a double, which would have meant better quality. And I wish they shipped immediately rather than "2-5 days after release". HMV definitely beats them on speed.

That's an old subject...let's move on to what's at hand here!
What are Canadian-to-American dollars conversion rates? US dollars to Pounds Sterling is $1.85 to one British pound, which HURTS when you win an auction based in the UK!
(ouch my wallet)

http://finance.yahoo.com/currency?u

$1 CDN = $0.7576 US = 0.4073 British pounds
$1 US = $1.32 CDN

So if I paid $67 CDN for the Japanese CD's last year, that would come to $50.77 US, or 27.29 British pounds

And the British pound is worth $2.4552 CDN - "Ouch my wallet!" indeed - or "Ouch! Our wallets!"

OMG!!! Does it fluctuate much?
(I see how very little the US dollar is worth -- YIKE!!)
I buy a lot from overseas, especially the UK. I'm amazed it costs less to ship from there to the US, but shipping from the US to UK and Canada costs a lot more!
I wish someone could create a global postal system where the price was the same everywhere, regardless of exchage rates. One flat fee for everyone -- that would solve a lot of problems!

Under capitalism, it's not possible.

And Canada apparently is one of the cheaper or cheapest countries in the world when it comes to postage rates.

To send a letter to the US would cost us $0.80 CDN at the least, and international letters would cost $1.40 CDN at least.

That's really sad -- but if it happens in our lifetime, it would be a miracle, and less headache to people in the postal profession!

Don't forget to double-check who they ship to. Sorry, no US.

Peace,
Adam.

uhh actually the DVD's on CD japan are officially Queen liscensed...they were just strictly limited to Japanese release?

and lisa, what were the bonus features for the first editions? I missed 'em cause I didn't have the money in time...

I bought the Made In Heaven sunrise mini-LP...these releases are highly reccomended...dammit i wish I had the cash to buy them ALL!

There's been nothing special added to any Queen first pressing from there. That's just something cdjapan mentions as an incentive to pre-order stuff, not necessarily Queen.

And you made an excellent choice to start your card sleeves off :) MIH is a gatefold and has poster inserts (the same b&w pics that were in the CD booklet). It's beautiful.
