Apologies if this has been mentioned already;

http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000578499

"The historic 1985 Live Aid concert will finally be released on DVD in the fall.

Earlier this year, the Band Aid Trust agreed to auction the global rights for the concerts for the first time, after pirated copies were found for sale on the Internet.
Warner Vision International won the bidding and has set a Nov. 10 release date for a four-disc DVD package. The iconic Live Aid, held at London's Wembley and Philadelphia's JFK Stadium, raised more than $70 million for famine relief in Africa.

Among the acts that performed were a reunited Led Zeppelin, U2, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Queen. The DVDs will feature a documentary, "Food, Trucks & Rock'n'Roll," plus performances from related Live Aid events around the world.
"Twenty years ago they not only played 'real good for free,' they took an issue that was nowhere on the agenda of the political world and placed it at the very top," says concert organizer Bob Geldof.

"By buying the Live Aid DVD, that day continues far off into some distant but hopefully better future for all those people in whose name those great artists played."

Thanks for the info! hmm... a 4 disc package? I assumed it would be more than 4 discs?

They might do double-sided discs. Warner does that with TV series sets like 'ER' and gets a whole season plus extras on 4 discs.

Geldof has had a reputation for being scruffy in the UK.

Maybe scruffy, but that pic is the worst I've ever seen of him. He doesn't go around looking like that all the time! He looks ill in that photo.

Peace,
Adam.

Not just double-sided, but I think also dual-layered on each side, which gives us 18GB per disc for a total of approximately 72GB worth of video material, or approximately 2-4 hours per side, so about 16-36 hours worth of concert and bonus material.
(*GB = G Bytes, not Gigabytes)

That's just what I'm guessing, but I can only hope I'm right.

Has anybody noticed how four hour long movies can easily fit into one dual-layered, single sided DVD?

If the 16 hour-long concert has DD surround sound instead of DTS, it will fit into four single sided discs quite easily.

I have a very strong feeling that the release won't have DTS sound simply because the original master tapes aren't THAT good.

I don't believe the concert will be released in its full length, there will sure be edits - for example "The World We Created" will most likely be edited out because of the sound problems.

I do not want any google ads here.

According to Queenonline:

"THE ENTIRE 1985 LIVE AID CONCERT IS TO GET A RELEASE ON DVD THIS AUTUMN."

I think they're assuming the concert won't be hacked to pieces.... we'll have to wait for some sort of official announcement.

Here's your official announcement from www.dvdfile.com;

"The most legendary rock spectacle of all time, Live Aid defined a decade, raised millions for famine relief and turned Bob Geldolf into saint. Now, on November 1st, almost twenty years after the historic live event in 1985, Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the entire concert on November 2nd.

The unforgettable global event, staged in London and Philadelphia on Saturday, 13 July 1985, was watched on television by over 1.5 billion people around the world. Featuring performances by U2, Sting, David Bowie, Madonna, Queen, Duran Duran, Neil Young, Sade, The Cars, Bryan Ferry, Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello and more, Warner has scoured the vaults and will remaster the event in its original 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 5.1 from the best-quality materials available. Also to be included on this four-disc set are additional performances from other parts of the globe, as well as the documentary "Food, Trucks & Rock 'n' Roll."

Retail price has not yet been announced, but stay tuned for further details."

So it WILL be the entire concert afterall.

Hopefully they have found a clean soundtrack for "Is This The World...".
