Since I've joined these message boards, I've noted an incredible amount of diversity and people of different nationalities. WHich isn't really surprising, when you think about it, considering Queen has been enormously popular in the US, UK, Netherlands, France, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, and most of Europe, just naming a few.

But it's rare that I come across such varied backrounds on a community, and I think that's wonderful. I also note that these people speak English very well.

So, I have a few questions.

> For those living in a country other than the US, UK, Canada or Australia, which country do you live in?
> How many people would you say are able to speak English?
>Do you see English used much?
> Historically, it has been shown that (to some extent) the popularity of rock music has helped spread the usage of the English language, namely I've seen The Beatles and Queen mentioned frequently. Was Queen part of the reason why you wanted to learn English?

I know, I guess this is all sorta stupid, but just wondering.

That's a good question. I live in the US, so I can't answer, but it really does make you realize just how much influence rock music has throughout the world.

Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.

New Zealand

Almost everyone, bar some immigrants

Every single day of my life.

> Historically, it has been shown that (to some extent) the popularity of rock music has helped spread the usage of the English language, namely I've seen The Beatles and Queen mentioned frequently. Was Queen part of the reason why you wanted to learn English?
No. I learned English from the time I popped out of my mother.

Hope this helps! :-p
(Perhaps you should edit your original post to exclude English-as-a-first-language countries)

Actually I live in UK... But I moved there only 4 years ago- originally from Poland

Only me...;)

>Do you see English used much?

Not much, no

Actually YES- I wanted to know what all those bands were singing about... Metallica, queen, Dream Theater, Sabbath... You can't rely on translations, as very often (too often) they're done by morons...

Definitely here... My father, who is a major in Polish Army, with 30 years of service earns £500 a... month... That's a really good money in Poland, mind you; my mother who is a hotel receptionist earns... £100/month... Now- last month I went there on holiday, I saw Dream Theater's "Six Degrees" double album- the price was... £15... How many ppl will buy it...? Etc, etc... I spent 3 weeks in Poland and it cost me...£250; and i wasn't saving at all- or no!!!

Still- at some point (3-5 years) I want to come back; I'm still learning English, I want to be an English teacher in some private school- one can earn really decent money for that...
