I'm sorry about the quality of the scans. They'd have been better if I had the webspace.

P.s. I'm sorry about the long topic name...

Still can't be bothered to buy that cause of the crap 2001 remastered sound. Makes me weep...

Peace,

Thanks for sharing. As I mentioned to you in email, it's hard to get those patterns off the inner sleeves whilst still having the text in focus.

I really love the 2001 remasters. Esp AKOM sounds good, much more powerfull. Makes the 1986 version weak

I like them for the most part regardless, though in our comparisons I was able to hear a lack of midrange in the DDD albums.

Something is really wrong with Innuendo though. It doesn't match up with any of the others and 'I Can't Live With You' really showcases the problem.

Perhaps it was rushed due to a mono version being released accidently first? (Remember, these are the 2001 remasters)

<Lisa Goodrich Mode> Incidently, I'll have my final three card sleeves Friday. It's been a long wait! I started buying them 3 per month in March and even skipped July. Bought them in reverse order so I'm actually getting the first 3 albums now :-P

I've opted to pass on the 2nd version of MIH, since it seems such a waste to buy it just for the alternate cover. I have the LP art version and that was kinda the whole point of these anyway, besides the other version is the inside gatefold pic anyway.</Lisa Goodrich Mode>

I agree. I have all of the Jap cardsleeves now and must say soundqualitywise I have mixed feelings.
For instance The Miracle and AKOM are superb! Much more powerfull then on the originals, I have to agree.
Queen's debut though gives me mixed emotions. On some songs it's an improvement. Sound is more clearer. But on some songs it's just too clear and especially the drum cymbals are distorting in treble. I can't listen to The Night Comes Down for instance because my ears hurt of all the hisses in the drums (also the snare in this case).
Finally I agree that the Innuendo remaster sounds very weak to say the least. Which is a pity because I had high hopes for this one...

Just listening to it now. I hear what you mean, though it doesn't really hurt my ears :) I'm really not impressed with this remaster.. I thought they'd take extra care with the first album for some reason. And looking at the waveform, much like Innuendo, it's not of equal volume level to the others.

Just curious, for you jeroen or anyone else... having just now purchased the first 3 albums.. these covers are all very glossy, which is fine but none of the others I have are like this. (except The Game of course) So I'm wondering if anyone has non-glossy versions of these first three or perhaps glossy versions of the later ones?

It figures that I waited so long to get them all that my last three would be printed differently. Not exactly an end-of-the-world situation though :)

I also just noticed that 'Queen' and 'Sheer Heart Attack' both have the title and catalog number printed on both the usual spine, plus the top spine.. wtf?

Well DF, all the replica's are very very accurate copies of the first vinyl pressings with a great eye for detail. Just look at the cutouts of the innersleeves! Even those are identical, it's awesome. You're right about the laminations. Those albums had laminated sleeves when they first came out, although most later issues are not laminated. Same goes for the writing on the spines: exactly like the originals!

(Talking about the first album: Since the replica's are so exact, I wonder why they didn't use the original Japanese (and US) sleeve but the European version!! It would have been nice to have the 'pink-sleeve' on cd instead of the regular puple one...?)

And the mix... well it doesn't hurt my ears litterly ;-) But you know what I mean. I think I prefer to play the first EMI cd-pressing... Not as clear but a lot more relaxed to hear...
