Funk singer Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit "Super Freak," died Friday, apparently of natural causes, police said. James, 56, died at 9:45 a.m. at a residence near Universal City, said Officer Esther Reyes, a Police Department spokeswoman.

I was just about to post this.

Whatever you think of the guy, that's sad. He wasn't even that old.

That's really sad, especially to die at a relatively young age.

That's really sad.

Wonder if this will change things about Dave Chappelle playing him in an upcoming movie.

A movie? Hehe, I love biopics for some reason. I also heard that Eddie Griffith (is that his name) is supposed to play Sammy Davis Jr. Also, Andre 3000 is supposed to play Jimi Hendrix. Also, Renee Zellwegger is supposed to play Janis Joplin. And I *think* Colin Farrel is supposed to play Ozzy Osbourne. Aren't biopics fun???

That sucks. I know he had a lot of problems but I thought he was doing better now.

I'm not surprised by his age though. He's had a major drug problem and suffered a stroke. My dad died at 56 just from drinking too much beer for many years.

PS- Chappelle's Rick James stuff was hilarious. It won't be the same now and I don't really think it will be appropriate for awhile.

I totally agree. Nobody dies of natural causes at 56.

Sad, but true, some people "just" die, and when you are famous there is no guarantee for a spectacular departure from life

A heart attack is a natural cause, and happens to more people who are younger then 56 as well

Hmm, considering that.. it still ticks in here, or is it a time bomb :)

Another fantastic posting of a wonderful person!

I always thought that a "natural cause death" was more like dying of old age.

I guess that includes any type of disease or body failure.

Prior to the MCHammer sample I only knew who Rick James was because he appeared in episode of "The A-Team" - LOL
