Hey, I read someone's post about an audio program that has the following effects:

Karaoke effects:
Center cut, stereo image preserved
Stereo difference cut, center material image preserved

(basically, those two effects are opposites of each other)

Does anyone know what software this is, and where I can download it?

Any help would be appreciated, please and thanks!

You can do it in CoolEdit Pro, but it don't always work right, especially with Queen songs...

Oh. Well, I wanted to do something with surround sound mixing for an experient, and I need a program for that, Dave. Is CoolEdit Pro the only one that'll do what I want?

I mentioned the plugin DSP_CENTERCUT for Winamp
in another thread previously.
http://www.moitah.net/dsp_centercut-1_2_0.zip

It has the options
Center Cut - Sides (Stereo): This removes the 'center' channel (whatever is in both the left and right channels).

Center Cut - Center (Mono): This keeps only the 'center' channel.

Classic Vocal Remover (Mono): This is simply the difference between the left and right channels ((L-R)/2). Not very interesting when you can use the first one instead, but I included it for comparison.

You can output files in Winamp with it enabled (if you wish to use it) or just preview files.

However this is rather 'dirty' and the new Adobe Audition 1.5 features a tool called 'Center Channel Extractor' which allows for more tweaking and better results.

I utilize Audition 1.5 for upmixing to 5.0 experiments. Just as long as you remember not to get greedy. It's rather easy to end up with 5 elements arguing in your speakers, rather than solid pleasing soundfield. Most methods I've encountered utilize the LR to MS-tool for center btw (I prefer the extractor).

'k, I downloaded CoolEdit Pro 2.00.

Now, how do I get the wave files properly loaded, so they will actually play?! (I can't figure this effin' program out - I'm used to GoldWave)

Oh! Sorry PMA, I didn't see your post.

I am downloading AA 1.5 right now. I will try it out for myself and see how good it is (although I'm sure it's very good)

PMA, when you use AA 1.5 to extract the center channel, what settings do you use to extract the vocals?

Also, how do I enter a registration serial number into the program to register it?

The setting that will give you best results is different
from different types of music, style of music, type of recording, type of mix. USE your ears. The tool has several presets you can use and start tweaking from. The help file is very good and tells what the settings will change.

You can't just extract vocals only, because the stereo mix will always (in 99% of cases atleast) contain other instruments panned at the center-range, such as drums and bass for example.

As for registering the product, as far as I know, Adobe Audition requires a separate registration program, which you run and enter the needed serial/whatever into. (but from memory mine didn't need it)

Naturally you have a legal copy and can now request
Adobe to send you the activation program :-P

Hey PMA, would it be a hassle to you if I asked you to send me a copy of your copy on CD-R? If you can, please e-mail me and we can make arrangements (though, I don't need you to e-mail me right away...I will not be able to read my e-mails until Tuesday at the earliest, because I will be flying back to Edmonton this upcoming Monday, and so will be busy until then)

Let me know, please and thanks!

I had that same problem with Cool Edit Pro. Got the program and a reg. key with no problem, but couldn't find the damn program for entering the code anywhere. It's pure evil! You'd think they're trying to get folks to actually pay for software!

I eventually found a different complete cracked bundle of the program.. oh yeah, it was a torrent.. I'd forgotten that. The only quick and painless torrent I've ever encountered.
