Iran has now seen the release of a Greatest Hits album by Queen. This is the first time that the Islam regime approved to release music of a Western rock group.
This can be seen as very remarkable indeed because western music is mostly forbidden. Also homosexuality is considered a crime, in Iran.
The authorities gave permission for 11 songs, all had to have a "social theme". Bohemian Rhapsody and I Want To Break Free were allowed, but lovesongs were forbidden.
Mercury's pre-ancestors were originally Iranian people. This made Queen one of the most popular bands in Iran.

This info was found on a dutch news-page.

We should all be thankful if we live in countries where such things aren't dictated by the government. Not that other countries haven't had their share of censorship issues, but this seems an extreme case.

It'll be interesting to see the full track list and point out the hypocrisy which no doubt exists.

Was Queen also the first band to have a gay singer with Aids?

One of the guys from Frankie Goes To Hollywood got AIDS. I don't know if he died or he's still alive.

That happened after Freddie died, though.

I think Brian was one of the first people to record with TWO leadsingers who had AIDS. Freddie being the first and Holly Johnson being the 2nd.

Im happy to say that Holly Johnson is alive and working on his art which was showcased by the Royal Academy very recently.

People are living with AIDS but much more work and research needs to be done.

Give generously if you can.

That's not too far from reality. Some morons would do anything to be just like their favorite celebrity.

Just like those fuckin' idiots who have changed their previous religion to Kabbalah just because Madonna is doing it.

If Madonna got AIDS, those same idiots would go and have promiscuous sex with anyone or anything until they catch the disease.

" Also homosexuality is considered a crime, in Iran."

" We should all be thankful if we live in countries where such things aren't dictated by the government."

Until recently, several states in the US still had laws that made homesexual acts a crime. The more our society frowns upon Islam, the more we seem to be sharing the same oppressive traits.

Ah, Irony.

Oh, I was only speaking of music censorship. They can ban gay sex as much as they want for all I care. I haven't had sex with anything that breathes in 10 years.

Strange, love songs are not allowed?

But in 'I Want To Break Free':
"I've fallen In love, I've fallen in love for the first time and this time I know it's for real"

Ok, the song is about to break free but it's a strange policy.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

I don't think Holly Johnson has full blwn AIDS, but rather a version of HIV. I'm not fully up with AIDS knowledge though.

I actual saw him a few weeks back when I was working at a building site up in London - it was on the same road as his house :-)
