Just got done watching Greatest Flix III (just starting to get a bit burnt out on watching Video Hits 1 and 2, and haven't had the attention span to sit and watch a concert), and it got me to wondering....

WHO CAME UP WITH THOSE GOD-AWFUL EDITS?!?

sorry. (*ceasing yelling*) but seriously....why? Why are there so many horrible edits to the songs? (most notibly TMLWKY and HFE, but then it seems like pretty much everything else fades too quickly). Anyone know if Video Hits 3 will feature the full songs? Has anyone heard anything about everything there's alternate videos for (notibly TATDOOL, and some of the MIH stuff)? And does anyone know how heavily involved DoRo will be in GVH3?

Those tracks were edited because the actual singles were like that. Heaven for Everyone was shortened by about a minute I think, TMLWKY misses part of the 2nd verse (only on the promo though - the single was full length) etc.

Haven't seen Greatest Flix III, but I did notice that TATDOOL fades out quick on the 'Greatest Karaoke Hits' DVD (about 4:03) and it's the full black & white version which ends on Roger. I do like the 'Classic Queen' version.. the animation works quite well and I believe it has Freddie at the end as it should.

And yes, Heaven for Everyone uses the single edit of the song, which isn't unusual. That's a freaky video but I like it.

so, who was responsible for the edits, then? surely not Queen themselves, as they refused to edit (most notibly) BoRhap and Innuendo (the song) for singles. and has anyone ever gotten a satisfactory answer regarding why the Wyclef Jean remix of AOBTD wasn't included on Flix III?

David Richards is known to have edited tracks from Innuendo through Made In Heaven (and most likely others long before and after) , including some especially for the Greatest Hits II CD for which he is credited in the booklet.

In an article on his site at www.mountainstudios.com he mentions being in contact with Roger while doing the 'Too Much Love' edit, so of course Queen knew of and approved of such edits.

For videos, sometimes single versions were used, and sometimes they actually feature slightly extended versions (Invisible Man uses a bit of the 12" mix at the beginning, The Miracle goes on a bit longer at the end, Headlong has an extra 5 seconds around the 1 minute mark).

If you want to see a really awful video collection in terms of edits, check out the original Greatest Flix sometime. The tracks were crossfaded into each other resulting in shorter versions.
