Although this is from about 1980, just read this review of The Game album. What a load of rubbish.

Yes, he didn't even give any concrete reasons for his views or mention anything about the tracks in any depth. You have to wonder why did he bother?

A quick search seems to indicate he had a serious interest in the music from Liverpool, and in particular the Beatles, but also the Clash and some other punk oriented bands. Given the timing of the album and review, I guess he was still hanging on to punk's coat tails believing music only had any substance and merit if it was socially aware and political, which of course, Queen generally steered away from (and Fred most of all, which is probably why he was singled out).

The fact that Fred's worst songs make anything produced by punk bands pale into insignificance escapes him. But then, I'm back to the realm of taste here, and obviously he had none. Sorry - it was just different than ours.

Would like to find anything he'd written post Nov 1991 on Queen/Fred to see if he ended up changing his mind (I think many "critics" suddenly did this didn't they?)

Just look @ the Live Magic review:
"'Live Magic' was a huge improvement on 'Live Killers', but then such a feat wouldn't have been difficult." Live Killers was MUCH better than Live Magic...

I agree. I love Live Killers 'cause it's raw and (largely) untouched. Don't understand why the band didn't like it!

God... The Innuendo review was trash as well.

Just read the rest of the album reviews in at Wybren's link, and there is some crap written there! Mainly about AKOM, Miracle and Innuendo. And the suggestion that MIH was "released on the back" of Bo Rhap being in Waynes World is laughable

I know. Sod off, they don't know what they are talking about. People release Greatest Hits albums of the back of movie apperances or in commercials. Not a whole new album. And not 3 years after the film.

i did a post about this last year. i wrote up most of their reviews and to be honest, they slatted everything queen did and were arrogant enough after that song had done well to stand by what they had said and not admit they were wrong! the truth is that their writers dont know fuck all about the industry- they are and always have been sooooo out of touch. its a wonder people havent just left them to die in the cold...

WTF? Ridiculous, after looking at Sheer Heart Attack album review I stopped (having fits and all).

Why does Brian have this crap on his site?

"The Worst Song: I would have to say The Millionaire Waltz. It just doesn't quite work."

Who the f*** wrote this?

I'm surprised Sheer Heart Attack got such a low rating, but then again, A Kind Of Magic got a higher average than A Night At The Opera and Queen II. Sometimes, it's just better to ignore most of these reviews, since everyone's bound to have a different viewpoint in the end.

When it comes to reviews of Queen, I usually don't trust them. Yes occasionally there may be a not so good song on an album, but that shouldn't ruin everything for the listener.

And the A Night At The Opera review is crap too. The bastard says one of the worst songs is I'm In Love With My Car and the only reason is the fact he hates Roger's voice. He rates God Save the Queen with 5 ("guitarwork" - as if the guitarwork was rubbish) and says that Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon is "a bit camp"(?!).
Right, Kuku, why does Brian have this on his site???

I think he keeps these things on there to inform fans of their weird opinions of Queen. Let's face it, it's working, isn't it?

Peace,
Adam.
