Well... I'm writing a novel about a gay guy desperately (and hopelessly, btw) in love with a good-looking straight guy. I want it to be a story about love and sacrifice, but I recently read in a psychology book that gays are unable to feel true love for anybody. Given the fact I'm not gay, I can't check out whethet the author was right or wrong. So I thought somebody in here could help me: do you think a gay can really fall in love with a man, for the rest of his life? Thanks.

I would hardly consider myself to be knowledgeable or anything, and I'm somewhat removed from the situation you described - being hetero and female... - I definitely think that stating someone is incapable of feeling true love because of sexual preferences is very wrong. Factually, I think you can look at the myriad of partners who stay together over long periods of time BECAUSE they love each other. Personally, I think everyone has the capacity for love.

Ja ne!

That's what I was thinking too... Thanks for helping. Anyone else has any other opinion? Any information or opinion is dearly welcomed, you know...

Yes a gay guy can fall in love
yes a gay guy can stay in love
yes a gay guy can be faithfull

A lot of US citizens might not believe it, but it is true ;-)

Let him get Aids, it spices up the story a bit

Was your psychology book written before 1971?

There is a misconception that gays cannot really "love" anyone because in our christianized society, love = marriage = babies, and obviously gays cannot reproduce without aid.

However, seeing as many many many gay relationships last longer than most heterosexual marriages, I'd say that your book is wrong.

Yeah, I think it's written around 1971... It's Dr. A. Hesnard's sexology book. My mother bought it in the 70s when she was a psychology student.

That's what I've said to myself when reading, but I wasn't 100% sure... Look at Elton John, for example, he is with his lover, David Furnish, for more than seven years and, in the pics, they seem sooo much in love and so happy together... It's hard to believe, at least for me, that two people can stay together such a long time and not feel anything for each other... Btw, Freddie & Jim are also a long lasting gay couple (hmmm, well, I know Jim is quite a controversial subject on this board, but... don't forget that Jim and Phoebe stayed with Freddie until the end, while other "friends" completely forgot about him during his illness - and they deserve respect for that). Freddie even wanted to be cremated with the wedding ring Jim gave him (that's romantic, isn't it?)...

I'm gonna think about that, FriedChicken :)... When I'll publish the book, I'll write on the first page: "Special thanks to FriedChicken and to the Queenzoners"... :)

I wish I could offer some advice since I'm apparently gay, but I really don't know much about gay lifestyles and certainly not relationships.

Intention is what matters, whirled peas, thanks anyway! Btw, it's a good idea to add the "aka Deacon Fan" thing to your username, I was just wondering the other days what happened to Deacon Fan - I had no idea you've changed it... Well, I'm glad I found this out...
