Aside from the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' cover on the 'Change Of Seasons' album, are there any other Queen covers by Dream Theater?

I don't think there is any other Queen covers by Dream Theatre. I could be wrong though.

(Actually, I think they did a Queen medley, as I'm sure I have it lying somewhere on one of my MP3 DVD-R's)

Apart from the presence of some members of Dream Theater in the Dragon Attack tribute album, I'm rather sure they played "Death on two legs" live in some concerts... I don't know if there is any recorded version of it...

I'm not expert at all about Dream Theater, so I think that someone else could give a more useful helping hand for this topic...

Sure there is an Mp3 of "Death on two legs" in the web performed by Dream Theater,in fact I have it.I think they did a very good job.I saw them live in Italy about 2 years ago and I liked them by the technical point of view but I wasn't that impressed for the feelings or emotions of their songs. They are way too intricate and unexpressive to my ears as the major part of progressive or progresive metal. The opposite of Queen IMHO that could do intricate and very popular and recognizeble songs at the same time. The secret is the melody. And so you have timeless songs.Apart this,no one can deny that Dream Theater are fabolous and amazing musicians but I'm way more concerned by the emotions and feelings of music. It's just a matter of taste.

I see where you're coming from, and when it comes to some of DT's music, I will agree. But consider songs like Goodnight Kiss and The Spirit Carries On. Those songs have some highly technical aspects, but both are dripping with emotion all the way through.

And songs like Learning To Live and Erotomania... sure, they have their technical aspects, but their chord progressions and melodies... just astounding stuff.

Yes,I do agree,I like their stuff but...I don't know. They are more strumentists that musicians. To put down a definitive sentence DT make music I listen to with my "ears and brain",and I can apply this to almost all progressive or prog metal music, while I listen to Queen with my stomach, heart and soul and that's what I'm looking for, feelings and emotions. And I can put in this category even The Beatles music, which is my second all time favuorite band.I've got friends that play an instrument and they love DT music and similar stuff.I think you should be a musician or know very well music to full appreciate them while Queen communicate to every person at every level in the world, that's why I think they are immortal. The most difficult thing is to make a simple and hopefully immortal thing, even in music...Like Michelangelo said while was painting, the less I put the more I have.In the end we are all looking for emotions and that's what Queen simply give us :-)

I used to have DT doing AOBTD too, but it was on a hard drive that crashed and I've never been able to find it since. I have a couple of Rush covers by DT that are fantastic! I am a huge DT fan. I have thier whole catalog including all but 1 cd single. I've seen them live twice and I thought there is alot of material that has alot of emotion. Listen to Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, Take Away My Pain, Hollow Years, Spirit Carries On, or Trail of Tears. The all have alot of emotion in them. Over all, I think they are the best prog metal band on the scene today.

BTW, Learning to Live is one of my all time favorites of theirs!! Good call GH! =)

Naturally, Queen speaks to more people, because DT's music is much more technical, and thus has a more limited audience. But in the end, it all comes down to what one defines as emotion. I find just as much emotion in many DT songs, but I often listen to them when I have a craving for technical stuff. I listen to Queen for different reasons, just like Zeppelin, Rush, Beatles, or whoever else I'm in the mood for.

IMO there's a lot of emotion in DT music- in fact, I think SCENES FROM A MEMORY is the BEST album ever- not only technically perfect, but with some great lyrics and awesome and beautiful melodies! I disagree with those saying it's only about the skill- what about already mentioned "Goodnight Kiss" or- my fav- "Space Dye Vest"? Those are extremely beautiful songs...!

Sound quality is fine, but it's not exactly a 'definitive' version. It's OK, done in one take I think. A bare bones recording, but interesting all the same.

That's where I got it from. I'll log on to WinMX, so you might be able to upload it from me. I'll only be on for about an hour though.

Ah... I'll try and remember to log on tomorrow, unless you want me to e-mail it to you, but it's a bit iffy putting e-mail addresses on here. Up to you.

I'm not fond of posting my e-mail. What time is it where you are now and when are you usually on winmx? It's 6:00pm here.

I've put it up on my webspace, but it will only be there for one night. It's 11:15pm here in the UK, so you can download it from the link below until roughly the same time tomorrow night, as can anyone else who wants it.
