After promising myself for ages that I wouldn't give in to temptation and play these rare demos, and that I would wait til the long rumored box set, I gave in tonight and listened to these three songs.
Of the three, I was very impressed by the dynamics of Self Made Man. This should rank right up there with I Guess We're Falling Out as the top Queen demos. I especially like when the heavy guitars come in with Freddie's voice. Had a bit of a hard time understanding Brian's vocals, however.
As for Robbery and My Secret Fantasy, these are, for the most part, instrumentals, but still quite impressive. MSF has an almost lilting feel to it, whereas Robbery is much heavier.
My only question is: who do you suppose, and this is all merely speculative, played keyboards on My Secret Fantasy? Since there was little guitar presence on the song, perhaps it was Brian. Or could it have been Spike or even David Richards?
Also, I would very much like to hear other fans' opinions of these three demos, as I Guess We're Falling Out seems to garner most of the demo talk (and in some cases, deservedly so.)
