from another mesage board completely unreleated to Queen (absolutepunk.net)...the VGB is the same...(me)
this is his original post:
the worst song on that CD is The Velorium Camper II: (or I, i can't remember), the intro is so hurrendously cheesy I feel ebmarased when it comes on incase people catch me listening to it. I supose thats what happens when you listen to Queen - A Night At The Oprea everyday of your life...worst band eva. Coheed's first album was so much better!
could be misinterpreting your statement here, but did you just call Queen the "worst band eva"? I can't even think of anything reasonable to say in response to that. That's blasphemous.
I like all the songs on the new album
don't even start with Queen, I'll rip you to shreds.
well maybe not the worst band ever, but they are awful, along with bon-jovi and all 80's hair metal bands, fucking power balads are the worst types of song ever....WE ARE THE CHAPIONSSSS, MY FRIENNNDSSS BA BA BA "vomit"
VGB (I warned him):
apparently you are unfamiliar with all of Queen's work and the diversity of it, WATC was only one song, and it was admittedly wrtitten as a song for fan participation. Have you even heard any material off of their earlier albums like Queen or Queen II? Or even later stuff of the Kind Of Magic or Works albums? Or Innuendo perhaps??
Also we are the champions was released in 1977. Queen actually had little success in the US in the 80's and most of the members (except for brian may who always had his hair long) had short hair in the 80's so I fail to see your comparison with "hair metal".
Queen put more work, substance, and musicianship into their music than any band today, or back then, every memeber wrote music and lyrics, and they were all very taleneted and have a diverse catalog of song styles, from serious, to heavy, to comical.
As For A Night At The Opera, I challenge any band to put out a release as diverse at that one today and be acclaimed, most people would say things
like the songs sound too different to be the same band and the band can't focus on a style. Do you know any of the other songs on A Night At The Opera? Prophets Song? Seaside Rendezvous? Death On Two Legs? You can squeeze every song style from hard rock to ballad to opera to vaudeville to pop on that album. Would you like a song by song description? Cause I'll sure as hell give it to you, as I'm assuming you don't know.
Also for any band to change as much as Queen did would kill them in today's scene. In '82 when they released Hot Space they were ridiculed for it being disco (which it's obviously not if you listen to it), which was more like funk / R&B type stuff, and even had a harder song on it. Queen never collapsed to record label pressure (why would they make a record that people would mistake for disco at the height of the anti-disco movement?), they simply wanted to try writing some different songs, and if you listen to the album before Hot Space (The Game) you can hear them already trying out new stuff, it shows how broad their minds were to other forms of music. The only band who I can think changed so dramatically would be Saves the Day, and we all know how theri last album was recieved.
Anyway, don't talk about what you don't know. I would love to conintue this debate. or are you gonna make some wise crack about I must be gay casue I listen to Queen? wow man. welcome to the 6th grade.
yep...he just got destroyed.
I didn't call you gay for listening to Queen? You asked if I was going to then took the piss as if did, so I don't know what that was all about?!?! Anyway from what I’ve herd I don't like them but you seem to know alot more about them than me so im not gonna argue. They were talented, can't argue with that, but we all know talent doesn't make a good band otherwise we'd all be listening to Dream T
"the radio's playin Queen, and we're rockin out" - saves the day
