This is from QueenZone's news-

"Queen are nominated in the programme covering the 80's, which broadcasts this coming Sunday on October 17th"

I amazingly talked my mum into letting me stay up to watch this show, and when they introduced Prince, I was like 'where the hell are Queen?', perhaps they are on the 1970's one, but if so, why did the net say Queen were to appear on the 80's one?

Thanks.

No because they do ten from each decade and Prince was no.10, these were there nominees...

Guns N'Roses
The Smiths
Bruce Springsteen
Michael Jackson
Joy Division
REM
Public Enemy
George Michael
Beastie Boys
Prince

so, if they aren't going to be on the 70's one, I'm gonna be pretty angry...

Thanks anyway :)

If Queen aren't in the 70's one there is going to be trouble, they were one of the greatest bands of the 80's for 80's songs alone, and also possibly one of the top bands of the 90's going on the few 90's songs. Queen are the greatest band to have ever existed, so they should be in the 5 nominees already there!

Yep, I watched for Queen on the 80's show. But they didn't show. I have to admit that the 80's may have been their most successful period. But I think that maybe they're (the programme) trying to pinpoint the periods where the bands started and began to break through. Seven Seas of Rhye? Or Killer Queen?

Anyway, that spells the 70's.

Peace,
Adam.

Don't take anything for granted with this, given the *cough* strange choices so far.

Would be an absolute travesty if Queen were not among the nominees for the 70s. Thing is, they shouldn't have to go through this nomination crap, they should be in there automatically with the other "founder members" - The Beatles, Bob Marley, Madonna, Elvis Presley & U2.

I was annoyed about Joy Division aswell.

.1. They were/are nowhere near as famous as bands such as Duran Duran, The Eurythmics, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith etc, etc, etc.

.2. They were a late 70's band because it said their frontman died in 1980 and they stopped then, so how are they an 80's band?

.3. They were shite!

Just saw the ad for the 70's version of the showdown and during the montage I heard a burst of Bohemian Rhapsody! So it's looking like a definite for this Sunday at 9pm. Even Brianmay.com has posted the correction.

Peace,
Adam.

Have just finished watching Queen's part in the show and am happy. Although, they didn't touch on as much as I thought they should and droned on a bit during the first half of their slot. But it was satisfactory. It definitely made me happy.

Peace,
Adam.

Just watched it think they did a pretty good compilation considering time constraints. Dave Grohl was loving them! The 70s slot is bar far the strongest though it's a tough week. Have a feeling that they might be pipped to the post unfortunately...

Loved the quote by Eric Hall about Bo Rhap. It went something like "Originally that record was 14 or 15 minutes long. What you hear now is an edit. An edit. You believe that's an edit? And when he came in the office one day at EMI played to to me, I said 'Is this the actual record or the whole album you're playing me?' 'No, that's the single' and I said 'Are you mad? That's a single!"

I agree that it's difficult to pack too much in but on the whole I was disappointed by the Queen effort and felt that it could have been much stonger. However, that being said my vote has been cast. All Queenies get your fecking votes in now! See Channel 4 website for details and we'll get 'em voted in there!

Personally I thought the 'Queen bit' was very poor and did'nt do them justice at all, it came across like Led Zeppelin were in a different league.
