Why I think Budapest Should Be The Next DVD.....

Think about it...It is only one of two concerts expertly recorded in FILM, the other being WWRY (AFAIK).
It's this reason alone why WWRY DVD is so far un-surpassed in terms of picture quality.

Any one with a large TV (40"+) will appreciate how good DVD FILMS/MOVIES can look on large screens.

Although concerts like Wembley and Milton Keynes are impressive on DVD, there are several scenes where the limitations of recording concerts to video tape with electronic cameras are clearly evident...

The 'light streaks' ('felt tip marks'!) and horizontal lines caused by interfernce to name but a few.

Also and I'm surprised nobody from the US has picked up on this....

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

Just imagine how a version of WWRY or Budapest will look in this format!!
The beauty of film as opposed to video is the overall resolution is MUCH higher and still better than HDTV, so a DVD done with a high-def transfer from FILM would look AWESOME. It may even be possible to to do the same with some of the old promos if the original film/negatives still exist.

Problem with stuff shot by TV is that it's resolution is fixed to whatever it was recorded in (PAL or NTSC) around 525 and 575 lines and wouldn't benefit from being transferred to HD-DVD.

So think about this next time there's a poll or discussion (like here!).

We had this argument a couple of weeks ago:

Though I would like to see the film material in DVD quality, I would rather have another unknown concert (I have seen the MK concert for the first time one week ago). A News of the World gig would satisfy me.
I still believe that the similar tracklist of Budapest compared to Wembley would stop many people from buying it. In a couple of years I am willing to spend money for it. But not now.

Budapest is wonderfully shot and truly a great concert - but I too would like to see something from the 70's.
Budapest could be incorporated in a Magic-Tour-Documentary Double-DVD. But not as next release.

It released as DVD over some countries at Eastern Europe - on one disk and absolutely similar to VHS version - no extras, no bonuses, and it seems as an official release!

Why should we worry about it now when the manufacturers can't even decide on a format yet? There are too many factors right now, just like the battle between DVD and Divx a few years back, to make HD-DVD/Blu-Ray a consumer concern.

I expect the number of DVD concert releases to be extremely limited, and enjoyable though Budapest is, I would rather see a different tour put out instead.

Irrespective of how impressive the cameras are, I'll still be watching the concert...
