Hey.. Did anyone else that has the new release of Milton Keynes notice that they "FIXED" the "This Locality" voice Crack on the CD?

I mean I like it.. but I think they should have left alone.. really..

I didn't know that Fred's voice cracked up there, but eventually I heard the original version... Since then, I always feel it sounds fake I hear the corrected version.
However, I don't mind they corrected it. However, they could have stated somewhere that there is at least one minor correction.
JSS said there are no overdubs at all.
(Well, if this can be called an overdub)

It's not an overdub technically, because an overdub would involve getting Fred to sing it again, which would solve a lot of questions around here, but doesn't seem likely at present.

Technically, it's an edit. A "better" performance has been cut in to replace the, er...well...shite one.

the original is all over the place - the "locality" bit is just the worst bit, wonder how much else of it is "fixed" in the edit

Good call Lucy. Live music for me has always been about spontaneity. It sure would have been nice to have no edits but QP is going to want things to seem as "perfect" as possible.

'Which would solve a lot of Questions' - LOL !

Anyway, I cannot see the selection criteria behind the edits - they kept in the bit in which Brians guitar lead was accidentally disconnected from the extension lead. This is a very humane and "real" thing in all the dazzling lights and the smoke and I enjoyed the honesty. There are also other cracks in the voice that weren't cut out. So why in FBG ?

I can understand minor fixes, as for example in Earls Court: I would love to see the whole concert but they certainly would have to cut in bits and pieces from other shows to solve the micing problem which occured in several songs. But thats okay, as long as we get a proper release of that show.

I hope they did not edit much else, e.g. in Back Chat. It sounds almost too good to be live, so many details in the way he sings it, but also in the way they play. But I'm ready to believe they didn't change anything. The same goes for Save Me, the other favourite song on the disc.

They edited FBG because the original sounds a lot like ME singing it ;-)

There you can listen to the cracking voice:

right-click and save target as. Following the link will not work. It is a small file, so no problem saving it on harddisc.

Wow - that is awful. I'm glad they fixed it.
Wasn't there another thing like this in the intro to "Somebody to love" as shown in the Magic Years-Videos ? I seem to remember "Can you fii-ua-iiind me... somebody... ". That his voice cracked in "find" ? Or is it even on the DVD and I just did not notice until this thread... ?

Well "crack" means not really out of tune. His voice gets weak for a moment and then tries to get to the right pitch again. At this particular moment it sounds really bad.
During this concert, Fred's voice cracks a couple of times and it is quite normal during a 2 hour concert. I also remember a crack during the somebody to love video... but I cannot find the file right now.

Yep - the voice break of "locality" has been fixed on the DVD too. I have the original airing of the show on bootleg DVD and I have to say, I like the voice break there, (even if really off key etc) as at least you can hear it is live !! But I guess in all honesty, to have it fixed is good for the general public, but at least we have the original to compare it too (and know the truth) It is a great DVD release.
