Im sick and tired of listening and watching crap songs and groups that are coming out now days.

I know freddies gone but if queen came back they would destroy everyone, i think we need queen back because music nowadays is pathetic.

I mean most people who listen to music go back to the 70's ad 80's because thats when real bands made music.

Todays music is all about doing stupid dance moves, mimming and doing cover versions of great songs and they turn it into crap. For example, i think there called electric six, they've brang out a cover version on radio ga ga and they have completely spoiled it.

I think the boys need to come back and show these groups how its really done, even if its just roger, john and brian they would still be the best.

Today's music makes one want to hurl!
I shudder to think what popular music will be like in ten more years. I hope we see the retro trend go on and hopefully there will be artists who won't think of dollar/pound signs and put the music (and artistic licence) first, like many of their predecessors did.
Does anyone honestly think Britney Spears will be remembered for her contributions to "music" in the next twenty years? If what she does is called music, I'm suddenly afraid...

A few months ago, I'd be the first one to agree with you that today's music is crap, but I've realized that not all of it is. There are some great bands out there, like Velvet Revolver, Jet, Franz Ferdinand, Cake, The Darkness (don't kill me!), Maroon 5, etc. You just have to look past the pop-punk, rap and popstars to find them. :)

Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.

I grew up in the 1980s when mtv began taking form , if you watch mtv now here in america its the absolute worst channel on television .. give me VH1 Classic anyday , atleast when they do the opening credits for All - Star - Jams they show a animated Freddie in the yellow wembley outfit in part of that. I think thats nice to see every now and again. There are some "new" bands that do the older generation thing pretty well. Coldplay and Radiohead are two groups here that come to mind. I dont think its ever changed really but if you notice most of the good stuff in my opinion still comes from the UK. American bands just havent really come to grips with a good sounding music, unless you like the blues , and then most of the legends if not too old , are already dead such as a stevie ray vaughn. When I dont listen to Queen , i usually pop in Styx , Styx is pretty good , my favorite styx song is Blue collar man.
I like a new group called Muse too , Maroon 5 isnt that bad either. Like i said before i was just 11 when i got turned onto Queen thanks to Waynes World and Mtv News showed excerpts from the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. I think back then too VH1 had this show called My Generation, Brian May was featured there as well I still have the VHS tape somewhere where i recorded this. Brian May brought me closer to liking Queen as I like good guitars in music. You dont hear good guitar riffs anymore such as whats in Save me , or even Bijou. As far as Drummers go , I have yet to hear anyone thats better than Roger Taylor , or Def Leppards drummer Rick (i dont know his last name). I probably sound stupid to you guys .. but I try my best to get out how i feel on a certain topic.

Don't like it as well, so I never listen to it, and I started complaining about it a long time ago. Works pretty good.

Besides, who decides what is good music? Maybe, in fifty years time, it turns out that La Britney was the best female singer of the 20th century. You never know, really.

Nowadays, everyone says that the eighties were so great, that the seventies brought us some great disco songs, and that the sixties were a revolt. Not to mention the revolutionary early years of Rock 'n Roll.

Everyone tends to forget, however, that most of the rubbish of these decades are completely forgotten. If you want proof, just download the top 100 of a random year, and listen to all the songs. You'll find that half of it is complete crap. The highlights were just a part of it, luckily the part that remained.

The same will probably go for the nineties and the zeros (?). Time will tell which great bands the recent years brought.

Oh, and for those who will mention all the lousy covers that are in the charts nowadays: it started at the end of the 1980's, and the comments were the same: it sucked (but it scored).

In the 1970s, there was no MTV it was all word of mouth plus FM Album rock radio in the US helped these guys make it big. Floyd, Zep and Queen all sold records without having their faces on their covers. All but three Queen albums in the 70s did not have their faces on it. Once MTV came into play, it was about STYLE and I don't give a rat's ass about style!

i'm not sure why people put down the darkness, like gunpowder said their not bad, pretty good but not great. Why do Queen fans put them down? obviously their no where near Queen, but at least the songs are decent and they have guitar solos (guitar sound has brian may influence). I think their better than most that's out there, because most of todays music we seem to agree is crap. why not have the surviving members of Queen give it a shot. cos it might be the right time to catch lightning in bottle. it's all about timing.

I saw The Darkness live this past summer and totally loved their stage show. They have a lot of energy and they do remind me of the early Queen -- more than a lot. They put fun back into rock and roll, and that's been needed for a while now!

There's plenty of decent music being made. You just have to find it instead of waiting for TOTP to spoonfeed it to you.

Well, my favorite era of music is from 1966 to 1980, with the exception of some things in the greater part of the 80's. But that does not mean ALL music today is crap. Correction: most of it is crap.

There are a lot of underground stuff that no one, or hardly anyone has heard because it is not mainstream.
Cheers

and Mike Hunt is right:

Blues and Jazz are great, but its not like that ever gets the praise it truly deserves.

fact: music has always been (largely) crap - the best decade ever for music (the 60s) had more manufactured bands than any decade since - what was the whole mersey sound about? add to that the tamla motown stuff, the specter studio and the flower power offshoots and you have about 1000 shite bands that actually had hits....that's not forgetting those like cilla, lulu, petula etc - god there were so many...

the 70s were just as bad - osmonds, jackson 5, paper lace, mud, alvin, showaddywaddy, boney m, most of the punk/disco/reggae/new wave stuff

and as for the 80s - all of it!!!

what you need to do is not focus on how much shite is about, but dig out and buy the good

muse, maroon 5, evanescence, jet, kasabian, u2, chilis, foos, ther is enough to go round....just find it

Well, even if she walks around in a garbage bag, that doesn't mean she doesn't make good music.

In my opinion, there are numerous other proofs that she doesn't, but that's just my taste. And even I have to agree that she made some quite good songs. But time will tell what to think of B. Spears.

What's this f**king obsession with Muse all about. I saw them live about six years ago and thought they sucked heavily. Then I saw them again four years ago, and still thought they sucked bigtime, and now everyone starts to praise them. Wonder why.
