Surprisingly, this isn't a topic about Freddie....

Today in school (we have activities week...so basically the school doesn't know what else to do with year 10) we had "positive speakers bureau", which is where someone who is HIV positive comes and talks about the virus. The information was great (the majority of us knew most of it)but then he started talking about his life from when he first became infected.

Fuck it was sad. Some of my friends in the other class were crying, I wouldn't take it that far, but it was quite sad. He was telling us how the doctors in Australia didn't tell him and his partner (he was gay) about "the window period" which is 3 months between tests to see if you're positive. He turned out his partner was positive and had infected Peter (the guy).

but not only does he have HIV, a few years after he was infected, he also got cancer! Talk about bad luck!!! They tought he'd actually died, but he woke up out of his coma. Then his partner died of AIDs, and he got it at one stage, but they "cured" it and he was saying that in the period of 2 weeks, he got 7 or something different illnesses all related to AIDs! This guy has had to have the worst bad luck ever! The doctors have told him several times he's going to die within the week, and he's survived. He's now turning 42, and he was infected with HIV when he was 21.

I thought this was a touching story, but then again, you probably all think I'm mad...

PS. Support AIDs day on December 1st! Buy the ribbon!

Great to see a strong person stand up in front of children and teach them something. Kids can be a touch audience, and its important we drill this info into them as young as possible.

Yup, agreed.

Yeah!

Every bloody time Freddie is mentioned in the newspapers these days, the article starts with "Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS...". He did lots of other stuff too besides dying of AIDS. Still, he is always remembered because of this.
