Do you think the reason John is now so anti Queen is because his microphone was turned off for so much of his career? I personally think "the straw that broke the camel's back" was when spike sang into his microphone in '86.

Honestly, I don't think he cared that his microphone was turned off, since he was the one that always said he couldn't sing!

Yeah, that sounds about right. Probably why he stuck around in the band for the next few years, too.

I know personally that John felt ripped off, never appreciated when blowing to this mute microphone nowone could hear him on wembley arena stage or in milton keynes or even in budokan japan.. John always had bad feelings, shit men..He felt underrated.. the other's had their voices hear out.. but poor john's only instument was his trusty bass.. I feel pity that man!! and so should you.. John had all the right to sing!! along with freddie.. Im ready to find an association to rebound john's losses.. and the loss of us.. the listeners.. who is willing to take care of our mental damage??

You can hear him singing live occasionally. Songs like Radio Ga Ga the chorus eg.
But not on harmony parts :-)

He is surely not a good singer. Otherwise he would have sung the harmony parts in the studio.

His microphone was never off! The volume of his mic was lower then the rest.

To be honest Spike could sing and John couldn't. But if were talking about this ever noticed you can't really here Brian untill he sings by himself?

He sang into Roger's microphone in the Magic tour when they were singing You're So Squared (Baby I don't Care) during the 'turape' bit and I think you can almost hear him sing.

John could sing damn well..i've heard him !

The reason he does'nt bring his singing to the fore is simply because he is too embarrased about it and far to shy.

He also feels that he can't sing very well...but when you have to sing backup with a man like Freddie on stage next to you...well..I would feel that way too!

John sings in a soulful style reminisent of Motown singers. It's lovely, but he's far too uncomfortable doing it in public. In private, yes, but on stage? Rarely but their have been some fine moments both on record and on film.

Best example is a the old Golder's Green radio program from the Uk, 1973. Here during "Liar" John's voice is louder then Freddies and he sounds GREAT! He really should have done more...but again, he was far to shy about it. Another good example is during the Live at the Rainbow concert from that same year. Same song...during the middle section when Fred starts with the "Mama gonna be your slave..." lyric. You can hear John wailing here plain as day. Other shows too...just listen you can hear him if you know what to listen for.

He CAN sing...damn well too...but he CAN'T come to grips with doing it with everyone watching!

Bless his little voicebox....
