Why did they hide Spike "behind the curtain" for 90% of the show? Or....why let him out for 10% of the show? Why not just put him onstage with the rest of the band? Is there a reason?

Well he was on stage. Just behind Freddie's piano. And he wasn't hiding at all.

Hiding is perhaps the wrong word....but he certainly was not visible.

The reason is that he ain't member of the band.

He helped them on lives as well as roadies, bodyguards etc. - but no-one says that all of their crew members had to be on the stage.

He's playing on almost every song.....thats a far cry from being a member of the road crew...and they do bring him out for a few numbers......so if you are going to bring him out at all.....might as well have him out there the whole time. He can be onstage and still not be a "full" member of the band. Lots of bands have extra players onstage. I would have liked to have heard the discussion on that decision:

Freddie: "I say we put him behind my piano and the amplifiers so he cant be seen."

Brian: "I agree....he isnt one of us."

Roger: "Where are the chicks?"

John: "I like him...I say put him onstage the whole night."

Freddie: "well that settles it....he comes out for 2 numbers and thats it."

Well put it this way. If Queen were trying to hide him they must be pretty pissed off with the director, as there are some shots with just him on.

He was on stage when needed. i.e. Crazy Little Thing and Tutti Frutti on piano and rhythm guitar on Hammer To Fall. Perhaps the only crew member talented enough? That could be a possibility.

Obviously.....he's onstage for a few songs. But he plays on every song. Thats my point....why not have him out there the whole time?

He was never hidden. Now, the videos don`t show him because they focus in the actual band members and don`t put a camera on Spike all the time. Still, he was visible in the stage for the people at the venue.

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

Really? Sure does not seem that way in the Wembley video.

Yes, lots of band have, but Queen didn't have, so what?

Yes, he plays on almost every song, as well as lighting rig works on the whole show, so did they have to introduce their the lighting director on the stage?

And in my opinion they could make a whole show without Spike, Mandel, Fisher as they did before 1982!

Anyway - Sebastian answered this question, so we can stop to discuss about this :)

i think the discussion was more something like this!

Freddie: what we will do with Spike?

Brian: He is a great pal... but put him far away from my red special!

Roger: Where are the chicks?

JOhn: Maybe i should play behind freddie's piano and Spike fill my stage place?

Freddie: Where are the boys?

Brian: Behind Freddie's piano, John? hmmm , not you, but Spike... you know, he is a great friend and all, but that's his place!

Roger: Where are more chicks?

Freddie: Where are the guys with Boobs?

John: hmm , maybe Spike come to the central stage once or twice so people stop looking at me...

Brian: well, Spike is a good fellow, yes, i can handle with 2 Spike apperances on the stage(but far from my RS)!

John: What do you think Freddie?.... Freddie?

Boy George: hmmm, Freddie is occupied,sorry...hmmm quite smooking.... and he says yes !

But they didn't need sythn's untill 1980. They didn't have anyone on that tour. Maybe they thought it didn't work.

Like Led Zeppelin, you never see John Paul Jones in the light, he's not usually in any of the pictures, but he didn't sell his soul...

Spike, not really part of the band, but must have made an impact because we're talking about him now.

One thing about spike, don't matter what you think him about him being part of queen or not.
He is a brilliant musician. Which is why Rog wanted him in the Cross, He was in the Brian May band and is in demand all over the world.

Have to agree with you there, Spike is a great musician, and as for someone earlier saying that the SAS Band are "shite" Have you seen them?
I have several times and they always put on a great show. They occasionally have some "shite" guests, but overall are a superb band, if you accept that it is little more than a jam session for (usually) great musicians, including I might add Brian May and Roger Taylor. (And in the past John Deacon)
