I don't post forums a lot...and rarely contribute to disscussions because you're all so firey tempered and witty :) I take back all...as i might get some jockstrap saying we're not all like that! Anyway,I remeber reading a few posts a while back about the worst Queen songs. Drowse popped up in quite a few peoples answers and i don't get it man! The first seconds of the song when i heard it mad me go WOW. I thought maybe some of you didn't like it as much because its quite a contrast to the other songs on A Day At The Races(fuck your abbreviations) :) i think its class especially at the end where he's taking to him self saying oh i think ill be Clint eastwood...Jimi Hendrix was good...now who esle do i like? I can't help smiling! I find nothing bad with Rog's song either...fine...he's not writing Bohemian Rhapsody but he is the cool cat!...you cannot judge him just because he writes macho? well i dont know...maybe not macho songs. Just different. Everyone knows that all four of them were completly different. So superb song. Simply Roger. Owh Yes!

I used to totally hate Drowse, but now I sometimes put in A Day at the Races just to hear it.

It's an aquired taste, I suppose.

Well said! Drowse is a song that has its very own atmosphere. I like the lyrics as well as the music. I can't imagine Brian or Freddie singing this song, it's very Rogerlike.
The song does not rock, nor does it roll (whatever that may be) but to me it is a very unique song. The guitar part sounds like a Hawaiian guitar that is too tired to play some more hoolahoop music after having it played all night long.

I think I'll be Clint Eastwood

Jimi Hendrix he was good

Let's try William the Conqueror

I agree as well. I'd go further and say it's Roger's first really good song. e.g. Loser in the End stops Queen II from being 10/10 for me!

I love that song. Reminds me of being over in England somewhere, and enjoying a drink and song with friends. Don't know why, but I'm fond of that style just because it goes on a tangent from everything else. Guess that's why they're so popular, from being diverse.

Drowse is Roger's best song! I love it! I remember I was on a flight and I had Drowse playing on my headphones. It fit so perfectly as I looked out my window and passed through the clouds. That song is one reason why ADATR is such the gem that it is.

Yes Drowse, one of the few songs where Taylor showed depth. And I love the slide, I wished Brian had played w/ one more often.

Hear, hear! Drowse is absolutely Roger's best song to me. Always loved it and still do. Great vocals, great instruments and a realy special, unique arrangement and structure.

Really the only problem with it is that it is difficult to make out a lot of the lyrics.

The slide guitar just elevates the song to a whole different level. Simply sublime. One of my absolute favorite songs done by Queen, let alone Roger.

I guess its like Marmite, as I think is completley shit. Probably even my worst Queen song. And Teo Torriate after it. No no no...

Well, I'm not a lover of many of Roger's songs and I hate all those kids singing in Teo Torriate. Its not bad when they do it live for the Japanese. The best bit of the song is the "stairs" guitar reprise at the end..

But thats just me, strange...

I more preffer Queen songs which are sung by Roger than some Brian's (except '39, SASS, Lost Opportunity and some others). 'Drowse' is good and it's in very special mood.
