Two questions about the Milton Keynes gig in '82

How the hell is Brian able to fiddle around with the tuning of his guitar MID fucking Brighton Rock solo!! seems pretty amazing to me!?

and also what happens to his guitar during Brighton Rock? it seememd to me that his guitar lead fell out, however he seems to check that but to avail...the guitar tech comes on and appears to do SOMTHING to his lead...any ideas what happened there?!

To get around tuning, I usually just bend the strings heap, and if I'm playing an open string (rather, one without a finger on it) I just tune it then. You have to be fast, and have a good ear, to do it on the fly like that. Takes practise.

If you've got a half-decent musical ear, it should be painfully obvious when one of your strings is out of tune, and I really don't see that it's that difficult to recognise that a certain string needs to be tuned slightly higher or slightly lower and then very quickly make that adjustment whilst playing.

But I do find the whole lead-falling-out-of-guitar incident fairly bemusing. I haven't watched the DVD since the day of release, but I do remember being surprised to see Bri check if his lead had come out of his guitar, assume not, and then have the lead pushed back in by his tech and have the problem solved. How closely did he check?!

I think the whole "screw up" during brighton rock is just a wierd mistake by Brian with the volume control.

You see him turn the volume all the way...and then when he starts to play and gets no sound he kinda freaks out. I think the tech simply made sure the guitar was plugged in and simply turned up his volume control!

You can see Brian kinda lost his focus on things when he goes up the stairs and his guitar cable gets snagged....this probably leading to the whole incident.

As for the whole tuning while your playing...all brian did was tune up a string a semi tone or so...he prolly felt that the string was flat.

Nowhere near a semitone, though.

His lead fell out during the guitar solo is what happened.

And he uses an echo machine on brighton rock to get those sounds :)

Brian's glitch on Brighton Rock in On Fire reminds me of the time I was about to start a bit of a jam with my friend....and we even had a tape recorder rolling!...and the jack on my (cheap) guitar apparently decided to unscrew itself.....argh! at the start of the tape you can hear my friend just sort of noodling around and me yelling expletives in the background....hehehe

and also on the same gig, Brian seems to go way outa tune before Dragon Attack and then Roger just goes nuts on the drums for a minute while Brian rights things.........I love that for some reason...

Well he broke a string in Dragon Attack, so he was obviously having trouble with his strings that night! Probably due to the temperature dropping outside...

I'm glad the string broke during Dragon Attack.
We get to hear a cool Deaky solo.

Anyone know if that was the only time we hear
a live version of the DA bass solo?

Dunno.

But Brian's guitar strings also broke in WWRY (fast), cos you can hear odd notes near the end.

And it's obvious, because he uses his Birch Special copy (which was later destroyed) on Action This Day afterwards, and during middle of Dragon Attack (after you hear the string break) and NIH (reprise)

I think this is the only show where Brian broke a string at that point. I haven't heard a Deacy solos in this song at any other show. Agreed, I'm glad Brian broke a string in Dragon Attack even if just this once so we can hear JD do his stuff.
