Jazz sounds really dated to me. I just think it isn't quite as good as Queens other albums.

i would say from Hot Space thru The works to AKOM they all date
they all have a very 80's sound

whereas the others could fit into any decade as a classic rock sound of it's own

all the 80s album stuff sounds dated now but put in context itll all come round again, the same as the 70s stuff has apart from most of the miracle, and the works!

I've heard a few people say that Kylie Minogue's song 'I believe in You' has a 'Radio Ga Ga'/ 'A Kind Of Magic' feel to it
Then I've heard people say 'The Darkness'
'Scissor Sisters''White Stripes'are very Queen
So I honestly think Queens Music appeals to all Decades I wouldn't say it was Out- Dated
They never followed 'What's Cool Musically' (perhaps Fred & Rog sometimes) and yet they are popular with Artists Today -Universal following

The production on the 80's albums sounds VERY dated, due to them totally relying on the "then" new digital technology.... today, no ones relies solely on digital technology as it sounds clinical & cold. Innuendo has very little low end which has made it date earlier than it should have done.... the drums sounds like theyre all triggered so youre not getting a live sound aswell... much like all the 80's albums and Made In Heaven

i have to agree completely. i've never like Hot Space - even when it was new - and the more i think about it i realise it has f-all to do with the funk tracks (i love the game) - it's the production - the coldness of Hot Space makes it less appealing to me....and the works is rapidly joining it for the same reason - an excellent point fella !!! well made

and Peter Cetera - don't tell people to shut up - they are all as entitled to say what they think as you are - just because YOU may not think ANY queen albums date it doesn't make you right
the reason that the 60s and 70s have more respect attached to them is because the music was genuinely creative and pushing back the technology all the time - because of the limits that were there. the 80s on the other hand was unmittigatingly manufactured in both sound and direction -most of the rock in that decade appeared to follow the Stock Aiken & Waterman route of "formulaic blip-blip, techno sound" where all the life, impurities and character were squeezed out in an attempt to make it sound "great" - this made most of it sound very karaoke (the best word to describe the sound, if you know what it means)
and Peter, your namesake produced some of the most manufactured hollow sounding pap-ballads known to man (imo)
- if albums/tracks or sides of albums date for one person - then they date - that is all there is to it - it's all down to perception - you could get 200 people on here to look at the same shade of blue and we'd all call it something different

i tink the sound quality of Queen and Queen II isnt great, but the sounds of the rest of the albums work with the time they were recorded in i think - yes, they dont sound as good as today, but i dont really like all the 'tecno' 'dance' stuff of today so i would be a bit biased!:-p xxx

Generally, Queen's fresh innovative sound doesn't sound dated because it is so different from everything else around. Although, having said that, I can't stand Hot Space, the Miracle and the Magic Album. If Queen had stuck with there original premise of 'No Synths' then perhaps they would have been better, but without the experiment then you'll never know.
Queen, News of the World and The Game are my favourite at the moment.
