Queen Fails To Recognize Four Guitar Legends

POSTED: 10:29 am EST March 2, 2005

LONDON -- Imagine Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Brian May at a party and the hostess coming up to them and asking, "And what do you do?"

That's exactly what happened when the four guitarists were at a party at Buckingham Palace Tuesday -- and Queen Elizabeth II actually said that to them.

Clapton said it was great to meet her and it doesn't matter at all that she didn't know who they were or what they do. He said he wouldn't expect her to know.

The Queen will get to know her music pretty quickly.

She's announced a new prize, The Queen's Medal For Music, which will reward musicians who have had an impact on Britain.

The award will be given out on Nov. 22, the memorial day of St. Cecilia, patron saint of music.

I cannot believe this....I forgot if Brian has met the Queen before, but she should remember him...he played on the roof of Buckingham Palace for Party at the Palace a few years ago. I hope she not starting to lose her memory....

The queen meets thousands of people every year... the famous and the ordinary. She can't be expected to remember everyone.

Besides at Party at the Palace she took her seat mid way through the show... I'm sure she was shielded from all the noise.

Brian comments about this on his soapbox. He said it's not true.

Interestingly enough, it is against the Constitution for any US citizen to take or hold any title of nobility.

Clapton should have asked her the same. You know Keith would have.

Well 'Sir' Bill Gates doesn't exist. It's an honorary knighthood and as a foreigner is not entitled to use the title 'Sir'.

Apparently it's not in your Constitution. It is yet to be ratified by enough state legislatures. It would also cause lawyers who become 'esquires' to deemed British gentry and would not be able to practice law. Ronald Reagan was awarded an Order of the Bath which is another title of nobility.

Cool stuff that.

Gad, there's more than a few QueenZoners who'd benefit from receiving an Order of the Bath now and again.
