But Happy Mothers Day to those Mothers that will be celebrating tomorrow!

But I don't know when Mother's Day is here in Brazil...

Not quite. Mother's Day is the fourth Sunday of Lent. It has no connection with the American version in May. Which was started in 1908 by Anna Jarvis.

Churchgoers were encouraged to go to their home town parish church on this day ie. 'The Mother Church' this of course led to people travelling to their home town where they would have seen their mother and families again. Servants were given the day off to go home to Mother and flowers were usually picked and given to their Mums.

That concludes today's history lesson. Next week The History of Advent.

And now I am here to disagree with you. Mrs. Jarvis was the second person to ATTEMPT to instate a mother's day, but she only succeeded to get it officially recognized in the United States. In 1933 Germany officially instated Muttertag (Mother's Day) on the 2nd Sunday of May. It was instated in all conquered territories during the 2nd World War, and never left those afterwards. Please go ahead and check these facts if you want to, they are 100% accurate.

Correct but as here in the UK we celebrate it as a religious festival and were never conquered during WWII I would hazard a guess that here, at least, it has nothing to do with Nazism.

Mother's Day is also May here in Australia. Which is kinda odd we follow the Americans in that considering our history is based on Britain???

I got spoiled last year and my kids got me a expresso/cappachino machine!! And every Mother's Day my kids & I put floweres on my grandmothers' graves.

And we weren't conquered by the Nazis in WWII either - although the Japanese came close!

Isn't March 8th Women's International Day?

I think also March is declared Women's History Month here in the States.
