On a serious note, I totally agree with you.

I just think what he said was in extremely poor taste, insensitive, cold, and callous...but the amount of talented people you listed above, who threw everything away, and many left behind families, friends, loved ones, etc. all for a cheap thrill and life in the fast lane, to me is just plain stupid and sad and actually infuriates me. Why do they have such a total disregard for their own lives?

Being gay is not a lifestyle. Sexual orientation or queer identity (gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender/sexual, intersexed, etc) have nothing to do with how a person lives.

absolutely! - show me where anyone has said different. that is not the point being made

the point is one of "bringing about one's own demise" and Freddie's wanton promiscuity certainly WAS his lifestyle - and at a time when the Aids Pandemic was rife in the type of gay community he particularly frequented, he was the archetect of his own death. after all - it's possible to be homosexual, take drugs or get a blood transfusion without contracting HIV isn't it? But, - as was his case - when you are excessively promiscuous in the most promiscuous part of the gay community then it is no longer about sexuality - just lifestyle.

isn't freddie quoted somewhere as saying he'd screw anyone?

I totally agree with you. I don't care at all if a person is gay, straight, bi. I am straight and I have friends of every sexual orientation, but they all practice, safe, monogamous sex.

What caused Freddie's death was his wanton promiscuity. If he had been straight, he may have every bit as easily caught AIDS.

Also, a thought that gravely concerned me was Freddies' gargantuan use of cocaine. If AIDS hadn't caught up with him, what about the drugs? Wasn't he worried about a drug overdose, Hepatitis, or heart failure (John Entwhistle's and The Rightous Brothers' Bobby Hatfield's heart failures were both caused from a lifetime of cocaine abuse).

Also, Freddie was so protective of his vocal chords and health because of his amazing singing voice..as he was quoted many times about this, but wasn't he concerned about the damage to his vocal chords, throat, or even lung cancer, that snorting cocaine and chain smoking cigarettes would cause?

And, one of my worst fears, was when Freddie was "trauling" the gay bars, especially here in New York in the USA in the early 1980's on week long NON stop binges with unknown strangers and pickups. Wasn't he concerned about being God forbid, raped, hurt, beaten, robbed...alot of which did happen to everyday Non celebrity people who were a part of that "scene" in the early 1980's and it often was in the Newspapers here.

There was a very controversial USA film made in the early 1980's with Al Pacino called "Cruising" which was exactly about that. How a serial killer was preying on the wanton one night promiscuous pickups in the early 1980's New York gay Nightclub scene, and killing innocent gay men who left their lives at risk by picking up strangers and having quickie bathroom and bathhouse sex.

It was a very dangerous way of living for Freddie on so many levels.

I have thought about all of this....many times...in regards specifically to Freddie.

I adore him and overall I believe he was a Very kind and good person...so why did he constantly put his life at risk and take such dangerous risks with his own life? For a happy person with so much to live for, who unlike alot of celebrities...Freddie DID indeed have good loving friends, good loving family, colleagues, a career,...why did he do such dangerous and stupid things...I just don't get it..and I think about it over and over and I still cannot contemplate what could have made him live his life this way. It both makes me cry and angry at the same time.

well said Arlene!!!!
when people round here criticise you for criticising anything queen to realise - you may actually be "the voice of sanity" afterall. i am so glad that a few people in here can see the flawed nature of some rock stars - even those we adore - let's face facts - freddie was on a rollercoaster to oblivion long before AIDS - cocaine, smoking, and the risk of countless non-AIDS sexual infections

makes a change from the stepfords who lambast, harrangue, and generally insult anyone who gainstsays anything Queen-related, to hear a similar voice who can look at queen and make objective analysis....we're all humans, and we are all flawed - even the demi-deus status of the modern rock icon!!!

so far on queenzone for (the same sad reason - performing some kind of anti-queen heresy) all of the following are persona-non-grata!

nicky Wire, electric 6, britney spears, robbie williams, WWRY, beyonce, g4, that twat out of the dvine comedy, anyone who ever covers a queen song, robert smith.......jesus people - life is too short for this - live and let live...or go get a life

Another one discussion about someome's quote... Are we gonna discuss about anything what has been said about Queen, even if your neighbour said something bad?
