Nobody should make money on field recordings with bad quality.

By the way - does anybody in the U.K. feel urged to pay for this recording, "liberate" it and share it on this board?

miffomojen: "does anybody in the U.K. feel urged to pay for this recording, "liberate" it and share it on this board?"

Why is it always the "scrounge" and never the volunteer?

E-bay is international - isn't it?

I'll just quote the person who is selling the recording:

"Will post to United Kingdom."

I thought you said nobody should make money from that? Well, if you're telling someone else to buy it just to share it on queenzone (not even volunteering yourself, just asking someone else to do it!!), that man/woman (tho prob a man..:P) will make a profit!!

I'm sorry if I didn't get my point across.

I'm not telling anyone to buy the recording. I'm just asking if anyone is thinking about buying it.

I believe that it it would be nice if the recording in question would be shared on this board. That way lots of people would get their hands on this bootleg for free. The more people obtain this field recording for free, the less people are likely to buy it.

You're a hypocrite and a scrounge and I don't care if people think I'm being harsh.

I'm in a good mood today, so I'll just pretend that you never wrote the above sentence.

Why not? This person has the same right to offer this than you to decide whether to buy it or not. This seller is honestly describing the quality as is, instead of posing a bad quality as an excellent soundboard quality recording.

On the other hand, you point that nobody should make money on recordings like this one and in the following sentence you´re almost asking for this recording!

I wonder if you wouldn´t buy a bad quality recording of a 1971 concert if it was offered... which role would play the fact that the offered concert took place about a week ago in that case?

I'm aware of that. My point is, I don't think this should be sold. It's a ripoff, IMO. I would gladly buy it, though.

So in that case, I'm a hypocrite.

Am I? I didn't know that.

I think this recording should be shared and traded freely on this community, not sold on eBay. That's all.

Anyone who wants to help get rid of this off Ebay, please follow this link to report it:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/bootlegs.html

On this page, click on "Report listing violations" near the bottom of the page and cut and paste auction number 7504630058 to report the listing. Ebay only seems to act if a number of people report a listing.

I wouldn't know whether to feel happy or sorry for the winning bidder because on one hand they have won the latest music from their heros, but on the other they have been ripped off with awful sound quality and a recordable CD. I hope they realise that they need not have paid anything at all because of generocity on QZ.

How mean spirited to report the seller, so they make money, that's between them and the bidder, not everyone belongs to QZ and has been adopted by a generous soul as I've been.

I've bought Placebo bootlegs from e-bay and as long as the bidder isn't led to believe they are receiving an offical release there is no con involved. Most people here and I include myself would grab this recording if it was seeded, moral issues of whether it's a bootleg wouldn't be raised! After all this person has the recorder, took the chance of making the recording - something I myself would not risk, there is after all the chance that your equipment will be confiscated and a fine recieved, and more importantly that you will be evicted from the venue.

I'm sure I'll either be slated or ignored for this but I never have liked the whistle-blower mentality.

Why report this? Why not report fake charity wristbands, Chinese pirate copies of The Matrix (or 5 discs Hong Kong Queen collection), or other properly wrong stuff?

Get some perspective. I sell lots of bootlegs on ebay, always undercutting every other seller, but the effect of all these ....people.... running to hide behind Mummy's skirt merely reduces supply...which increases the price.

And are these sanctimonious ...personages....the ones asking for mp3s of "Extra MAgical Ingredients" or whatever? Wouldn't THAT be ironic?

Well, I for one am most certainly NOT one of the people asking for mp3s every other day.

I would indeed report any of those items you mentioned if I happened across them. Do I spend my time looking for things to report on Ebay? No. But if I see it, I will take a few minutes to report it. Since I collect music and music-related items, the items I'm most likely to spot are CD-R and DVD-R bootlegs.

Why do I report them? Without getting into a big debate about the moral issues of selling bootlegs, I'd like to simply make this point: many bands and artists don't have a problem with people recording and freely trading their live shows. U2 are a good example. They've stated on several occasions that they like the idea of taping. The problem comes when a few of the tapers (or someone with a higher-gen dub) decide to make and sell copies. As far as I know, there isn't a single band or artist out there who condones this practice. In order to combat the sale of bootlegs, most artists do not allow taping, even if they agree with the idea in theory. Of course, this leads back to your point that the fewer the number of recordings available, the more people are willing to pay for them when they ARE available. It's a vicious cycle that some bands (most notably, the Grateful Dead and Phish) have fought by ENCOURAGING live taping. Copies of their shows are so easy to come by that there's usually no need to buy them.

I guess my overall point here is that selling bootlegs gives artists (and their labels) an excuse to prohibit taping in the first place.

It's a cyclic argument that only bands can break (a la Greatful Dead)
