Just wondering if anyone else had problems taking photos last night from the Security in the standing area. Being right at the front on the right hand side of the catwalk, some idiot security guard almost soured my night by stopping anyone taking any photos for a large portion of the gig.
I was in the best position Ive had at any gig, for any band, and would have got some amazing photos for myself to remember the occasion, but some sour faced old git, after waving at me to stop, threatened to throw me out if I took anymore...until virtually the end that is, by which time there were so many hands in the air it was impossible to get a good shot.
Just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

It particularly annoyed me as I only had one disposable camera - hardly professional equipment!
Any other gig, and it might have spoiled it slightly for me - but no one could stop me enjoying this one!
After reading about the problems at Newcastle, perhaps this was an overreaction to the cameras?

If you look at the ticket, you will see that cameras are forbidden in the arena - the guy was doing his job.

Probably 50% of the crowd had cameras. Digital, disposable, SLR's you name it it was there. Didn't see anyone being asked to stop taking pics. Think you must have just been unlucky to catch this over zealous stewards attention.

Yeah, I know he was just doing his job, but anyone who's been to any gig at the MEN (or any other gig Ive been to for that matter) will know that small personal cameras, particularly disposables are normally ignored....

And it was all the more annoying to look round the crowd and see a zillion other people not being asked to stop, although I assumed they were just too far into the crowd to be reached....either way, it was just frustrating. As Ive said though - even a miserable bugger like that Steward couldnt put a downer on an otherwise legendary evening!
(oh, and is their job to look like someone just died all the time - a smile wouldnt hurt now and again!)

I went to The Who's shows there in '96 and 2000 (superb venue!)and was lucky enough to be right at the front taking as many pics as I liked. Pete Townshend stopped a security oaf from taking the camera off me and said "He's shooting for my website - fuck off!"

Rock and roll.......

Interestingly, it took me over two hours to find my way back to the car after the 2000 aftershow party - I arrived home down south at 5am and, three days later, received a speeding fine on the doorstep for the privelage!

They take tops of bottles because it makes them less of an object to throw at people - (usually support bands). With the top off the bottle (now for the technical bit) it goes all squishy.

They do the same at most football grounds too, and if you ever have the privilege to go to an italian football ground supporting an english team, the police usually take all your coins off you as well as your belts (lethal whipping weapon), sandwiches (poison and in my case rock hard objects), and bottles /cans. So whilst you are stood there penniless, unable to buy an expensive drink (they dont give you coins in change either), trying to hold your trousers up cos they keep falling down cos your stomach has shrunk, the italian fans are free to shoot fireworks and throw bottles and coins at you... not that im bitter about going to ROMA or MILAN...

If anyone was at Knebworth in 86, they'll remember the Quo fans throwing bottles they had pissed in. These showered everyone as the bottles passed over-head ....... NICE !!!!!

i had the same problem and i only had a rubbish camera phone, they told me to put it away. I was positioned to the right of the catwalk in line with Brian's stool when he did the acoustic solo bit, i clung to the barrier with my life, i am still in shock now i can't believe I WAS AT THE FRONT!

Had no problems taking photos at Newcastle from the front row. The security guard was right in front of me and is on half of the ones I took as he was so big. I guess us lot from the north east are more laid back.

I can understand the security stopping people taking pictures next to the catwalk, I imaging there is nothing worse in the middle of a guitar solo that to have a camera flash right in front of you.

I have photographed a couple of gigs (with a press pass) and they never let us use a flash (bad techinique anyway ;).

you're even luckier then I thought. I went to the gig in Budapest and their stupid Hungarian security didn't allow even a disposable cameras in the arena. you had to deposit it near the box office. so only about 2 people got their cameras in, and some used their mobiles. such a shame .... I was in the front near Brian!!!!

I was in Budapest as well (my sole chance to ever see them live) and managed to smuggle my camera wearing it in my pants, but the security gorilla at the end of the catwalk was waving all the times at me to stop taking pictures, so I only managed to get a few (bearly 5).
