The ultimate fan mix challenge…

First, let me say that I am technically incompetent - and I have no idea how to remix - so please don't shot me down in flames.

However, as a Queen consumer, I find that most of the fan remixes I have listened to are (and this is no insult) not really that interesting, and apart from a bit of harmless fun for the creator, really offer nothing new or exciting.

So how about rising to the challenge? Below are (in my opinion) the top 5 fan remixes ever… because they all contain that one missing ingredient – that is - if they went on sale, I would buy them! (My apologies to the original mixers)

1 – New York (At last?): Good use of demo, Fairlight programming, and Sammy having his wings clipped!

2 – A Beautiful Day (Techno remix): Now used as an opener for the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour.

3 - Ogre Battle (reversed ending): Actually recreates how the track COULD have sounded as an original mix – very subtle.

4 – State Of Shock (Freddie Mercury & Michael Jackson demo version)

5 – We Will Rock You (Xmas edit): By far the worse remix of all, except for the jazzy use of Brian sounding “Jingle Bells”.

So there we have it – but can anyone beat it?!!!!!

Have you heard my A Kind Of Magic mix, John? I think that is a good representation of what the original should have been.

Lord Fickle: "you heard my A Kind Of Magic mix, John? I think that is a good representation of what the original should have been."

Thank you for the invite, and indeed I have listened to your remix.

Unfortunately, I have to (IMO) disagree, because it does not seem to take that "one step beyond" - or that magical leap into "something different", and although it may be unique - it still sounds the same!".

But then again, that is just me, so it's not in my top 5 - but it is promising as it is technically a very compitent piece!

I fully appreciate what you are saying, John, and thanks for listening. What I was trying to do was to recreate what I thought the original version would have been, without the guitar solo at the end being edited, as it was on the album / single versions. I agree, you can't really call it a 'remix' as it's no different to the original, and it only actually involved one edit. Perhaps it could be called a 're-edit', or an 'un-edit'? :)
